Meet Nettie Caine

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nettie Caine. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Nettie, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

I believe very strongly in staying close and connected to those who have made an impact during your life because you never know how you can help them or they can help you in the future! I firmly think we are all put on this earth with unique skills and the way we interact with one another pieces together a puzzle that can better the world around us!
Growing up in the dance community I always knew whatever I chose to do in this life I wanted to be creative. I also knew I wanted to make and impact, I wanted to be so rooted in my community that I could help make a difference and work with others in the area to better day to day life of those around.

Sometimes your purpose is easy to find, others it falls into your lap- I was very blessed to have met an amazing human names Josh Perkins when I was in school through dance. Later little did we all know he would become one of the most profound mentors of my life. I was working 9-5 retail and office jobs, feeling burnout, not creative and like I was not making the impact I always hoped I could.

I one day got asked by Josh to DJ my former high schools homecoming dance, after that I knew this was my purpose. To share music, events and fun with the community I have called home for 33 years. Fast forward 4 years down the line, hundreds of events later. The amount of ways I have learned to give back to my community from working with Justus Entertainment are countless!

Some event examples I have felt the most fulfilled giving back are when I see the faces of the kids at the elementary school fun runs and field days, smiling, dancing and enjoying something unique!

I also love our yearly sports camps, bringing back former college athletes to educate, play and support the up and coming youth athletes is so unique to our area and is like no other event.

I know my purpose is to work with others in the community to create unique, fun, educational events that are one of a kind and can leave a lasting impact in this world! I want it all to be more than me, more than I- it is about we and us. Everyone’s purpose is stronger together.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I focus on good vibes and good music for any event that is brought to us that I can help with!
I am a local DJ in Bozeman MT, currently voted #1 in the area and very blessed to have that title! The most exciting part of my job is seeing everyone’s faces be so happy and excited at events! Knowing the impact of taking the stress off of them so they can enjoy their event with ease is so fulfilling!

The company I am a DJ for is called Justus Entertainment Group- We produce many events throughout the year including our Winterfest, Hempfest, Alpenglow Festival, Bobcat Legacy camps and more in the Bozeman and Big Sky area!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Growing up in the dance community from age 3-19 really helped with music knowledge. Forcing me in a good way to explore multiple genres and decades of music has helped build a library of good vibes for all occasions!
Second, I would say is my love for other people stories- my friends like to say if I am left alone at any outing I will come back with at least 2 new friends every time. I love to meet new folks and hear their stories, connect and share!
Last skill I think is my ability to think quickly, being focused to see if a certain song isn’t hitting the crowd right- be able to change it.

Some advice I have for new DJs that was shared with me as a budding one that I think is vital- there is nobody like you, nobody has the same music taste as you, the same knowledge as you, we are all so different and see the world so uniquely, you are the right one for this gig- don’t be scared to act like it 🙂

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

Burnout and overwhelming feelings are inevitable in this life, we live in a world that always wants us to be doing something, sharing, showing.
When I feel worried or overwhelmed and unsure, I love nothing more than a good day of things that make me feel accomplished and whole- things I can check off my list to feel like I am moving forward! This usually includes a good gym session, some house work, making a solid healthy meal at home, listening to a podcast or self improvement audio book and bed early.
I find when I take a step back, do the things I can check off, I am less worried about the things I can’t.
