Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Neva Healer. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Neva, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
Developing confidence and self-esteem has taken time for me (like over 40 years!). After more than 10 years of working in the field of Chinese medicine, I looked around and thought, I can do this. It is my time to create my signature style of medicine. As well, what helped me was my own healing journey. I learned through healing my own childhood trauma and regulating my own nervous system. I saw myself feeling better in my own skin, being able to relax, being able to help others with more ease. I finally saw that I am worthy and I am deserving. That’s when I channeled my latest business idea. Because I was asking the Universe for an uplevel, I wanted to do something more creative and to help a larger audience. So the information was downloaded in a long journaling session. But I don’t think this information would have come as easily or as clearly if my system was still being bombarded with the early childhood trauma response mechanism. I needed to clear the old in order to make way for the new. And now running this new business I feel my confidence building every day. Because I have to put myself out there and I have to do scary things in order for this thing to fly. It’s so scary but even with the rejections I know it will all be worthwhile in the end. Even if the business flops, I will be the best version of myself in the end.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a licensed acupuncturist who specializes in Classical Five Element acupuncture and have been practicing for 12 years. In this style of acupuncture, we view humans through the lens of the Chinese five elements (Wood, Fire, Earth, Water and Metal). In my 16 years of studying and tracking humans through this lens, I have learned that people are usually related to one or two of these elements most. Each element has different strengths and weaknesses, different needs, different emotions, etc. Knowing this information has helped me tremendously in my own healing journey as well as has helped me to relate and understand the healing journeys of others. So after practicing for 10 years and helping hundreds of people in my clinic, I wanted to extend my reach and share this information and healing wisdom with others. So I formulated a tincture and a line of body oils each related to one of the five elements and finally launched this business with 2 other women on September 28, 2024. We are focused on sharing these products with as many people as possible, particularly highly sensitive people (HSP). The tincture is designed to regulate the nervous system and because we are HSP’s ourselves, we understand that the nervous system becomes dysregulated quite easily in this population. The oils are designed to harmonize the emotions and we feel that all humans can use help in this department as well 😉 All of our products are organic and made with love here in California. We are so excited to expand our reach throughout California, the United States and eventually the world! Check us out online at shop5e.com and on Instagram @shop.5e
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The most impactful information to me was that what’s going on in the outside is a reflection of what’s going on in the inside. For me, anytime I am triggered in my work or business, this is a beautiful nugget of healing just waiting for me to attend to it. This nugget is related to my childhood core wounding. As I heal this, the triggers stop happening and more abundance, authenticity, and ease comes my way! I have always been triggered by money and I didn’t know that this was related to my childhood. As soon as I started looking into this and healing these old scarcity patterns, I saw more abundance coming into my life. And also – I was so much less stressed out. So, as a healer, continuing my own healing journey was so important so that I could attend to my patients in a calm, grounded and receptive way. This is something I needed to do personally in order to find my signature style of healing.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
As a highly sensitive person, I do get easily overwhelmed. Healing my childhood trauma made an immense improvement for me in terms of not being so easily overwhelmed. I would recommend this to everyone. Because trauma doesn’t have to be a big thing like abuse, war, car accident, etc. Most children in American society these days have micro-trauma from not being attuned to as children. Because big feelings are inconvenient in this day and age. It is incredibly rare that a parent gets down to the level of their child and looks them in the eyes and says something along the lines of “yeah, you’re feeling really sad right now. I can be here with you while you feel sad.” This is what we all crave as children. And when we don’t get it, we loose track of our inner emotional compass. And then as adults, we don’t know how to feel or process our feelings, we have pain/disease as a result, life gets even more stressful and overwhelming, blah blah. So, inner child work, EMDR, IFS and/or hypnotherapy are ways to access the subconscious brain and rewire those old neuropathways and heal the core wounding.
And step two is nervous system regulation. Babies don’t learn to regulate their nervous system until age 3 so before the age of 3, they are co-regulating with mommy. If your mom didn’t have a regulated nervous system, if your mom wasn’t around and/or if there was no touching/eye gazing happening, you probably didn’t learn how to regulate your nervous system. So I do this daily and I suggest this often to my patients. Belly breathing is a great place to start, also self-massage and orienting in space. Yoga, meditation, etc are other ways but perhaps a little more intimidating to most. Breathing is such a simple and accessible way for us all to regulate. And when the nervous system is regulated, we can move forward, think more clearly and be more productive. A win-win for all!
