Hi Nhung, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

I started working in the beauty industry since I was in high school. At that time, I was just working because my parents own a salon. I was pursuing my career in pharmacy but realized that that was not my calling. I was going for something my parents wanted. When I moved to LA, nails wasn’t just nails to me. It was art! I was drawn and was loving it. I always have the love for art, and to me these nails were my little canvas to create something beautiful. When I decided to open my salon suite, my parents wasn’t happy. They were disappointed that I didn’t pursue my pharmacy career. I was sad, but I realized I can’t let other people opinions affect me. I have to do this for me and show them that you can be successful in anything you do. I’ve been on my own since October 2019, than pandemic hit in 2020. During those times, was the highlight of my transition. I slow down, I was more present w myself. During those times, I realized that I am grateful to be exactly where I am at the moment. I started noticing if things didn’t happen the way it did, I wouldn’t be this successful in my business. Once you start noticing and being present, you start realizing that everything happens for a reason. I started realizing my purpose was to help women feel good when they are in my chair. It is a spot that they can talk to me about anything and everything. I went through a lot in life that now I want to help women get out of the state that I used to be in. It just feels right to be where I am today. I feel happy that my clients feel great after they leave my salon. I know that this is where I am suppose to be.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am an entrepreneur. I started off doing nails since I was only a freshmen in high school. Before that, I was always hustling to make extra money no matter what the task with be. I used to sell candies to my classmates at school before our lunch period because I knew everyone would be hungry. I buy used phone on eBay and resale it to my families, I used to return all my moms clothes to make extra money, I used to sell Mary Kay makeup products, I tried other pyramid schemes that they got me doing, the list just keep going on. Oh wait, I learn how to do lashes to make extra money on the side while maintaining my main job at the nail salon. Soon after that, I started learning how to do eyebrows and tattooing clients brows.

I am never afraid to try something new, I’m always eager to learn. I specialize in structured gel manicure, majority of my services are mostly that. When you think of structure you think just gel, my structure is unique that only me and my client understand. I had clients struggle w their nails lasting and I wanted to come up with something that can bond their nails and not pop off. This method which is more of a hybrid structure gel mani, is rated #1 from my clients. Both my clients in Chicago and La says that has help them go longer without having to come in. I’m hoping I can work on releasing this amazing method to the world soon. So if you struggle with your nails holding on, we can work together to formulate something that will help your nails last longer. That’s what make me unique, I’m always changing and trying something. And I love that my client trust me and let me do it.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

In order to be successful in anything you do, you have to have the confidence. Without confidence in yourself it’s hard to show up for others. People can tell if you aren’t confident in your work or yourself. Anything I do, I am eager to learn and perfect my craft.

Courage is another quality that has help me to be where I am. I have been told by many people to not take risk. That I shouldn’t open my salon, I shouldn’t leave a busy salon to be on my own. People tend to stay because they are afraid of change. Fun facts: I use to be that person that doesn’t like to change. But now, I see change as a beautiful thing. There’s a saying I always tell my client: “everything you want is on the other side of fear”. If we let fear take over us, we won’t ever know how it is to be your own boss. If we failed at least we tried.

My creativity is another quality that helps me to be where I am. I am an entrepreneur so I find anything and I think business. I see things in a different perspective than most people. My mind is constantly working and figuring out the next big step I should do.

It’s been 5 years since I’m on my own, I went from being slow to being fully booked, I have the freedom to do anything I want, block vacation days when I want, I set my own schedule, and I travel to Chicago to work monthly. It’s all about finding a system that works for you.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?

Sometimes I go through stages of mental breakdown where I overwork myself and I realized it has affected me mentally and physically. What I do to overcome this is go on a reset, I disconnect off of social media, I center myself by connecting with nature, I detox because the food we eat can really effect us mentally, and also taking more time off when I feel like I need it. Once I do that, I feel much better, I feel more present and I am just happier.
