Meet Nia Hutchinson

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nia Hutchinson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nia below.

Nia, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?

When I was a child, my mother would encourage me to recite words of affirmation on the way to school. She would have me say things like “I am smart, kind, wise, talented, and capable of conquering anything I set my mind to.” At the time, I didn’t fully comprehend the significance of this practice, but as I grew older, I realized it was a powerful tool for reminding myself of my worth and abilities. I continued to recite these affirmations before auditions, tests, business endeavors, and creative projects, finding that they helped boost my confidence.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

My name is Nia, a choreographer and business owner originally from Temple Hills, Maryland. After relocating to LA to pursue a career in the entertainment industry, I quickly established myself as a dancer, model, and actress, working with renowned artists. Transitioning into choreography, I have collaborated with upcoming artists and dance academies, choreographing music videos and providing movement coaching to bring their visions to life.

It was through this experience that I founded “The Muse N Motion,” a company dedicated to teaching dance and showcasing talented performers in the LA and DMV areas. Additionally, I launched “The Muse Wear,” an athleisure brand designed to empower individuals as they move. This September, I am thrilled to announce the launch of our first industry intensive in Maryland, where I will guide aspiring artists in kickstarting their careers in the industry. I am excited to merge both of my businesses and contribute to the community.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Throughout my journey, I have found that having a diverse set of skills is crucial. I dedicated over 10 years to dance, but also delved into art, music, and production. This range of talents allowed me to adapt to various roles in the industry and proved invaluable when launching my own businesses. My advice to newcomers in the entertainment or business world is to remain open-minded and acquire as many skills as possible. A broad skill set opens up endless opportunities for entrepreneurship and self-started ventures.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?

A book that has been super impactful to me is “Dont Settle For Safe” By Sarah Jakes Roberts. This book speaks about playing life safe and moving beyond your comfort zone. This book helped me change my perspective on my past, my present and truly made me calm yet determined about my future.
