Meet Nic Few

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nic Few a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Nic, thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with us today. We’re excited to dive into your story and your work, but first let’s start with a broader topic that might be stopping many of our readers from pursuing their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. How have you managed to persist despite haters and nay-sayers that inevitably follow folks who are doing something unique, special or off the beaten path?
I persist because I’ve grown to realize that haters are hurt people. I’ve been there. It doesn’t do me any good to give too much power or credibility to hateful energy. At this point I recognize the pain (the haters) and and I understand that negative energy has nothing to do with me. I either choose to engage with love or leave them to their own devices. Either way the voice of hate will not move me from my purpose.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m an actor. It’s August 2023 and my industry union and members have called for a strike (SAG Screen Actors Guild). I’m in the union so I cannot work on big budget projects until an agreement has been reached where actors like myself are compensated for our work fairly. All of this to say…. I’m back in the theatre and loving it! My next show will be at the Robey Theatre! Shows are from November 5 – December 5 at LATC downtown Los Angeles. I’m also writing and acting in several independent projects.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1 Paying close attention. As an artist it is important to utilize all five senses to the max not only on stages or sound stages but in life as well. Simply existing is not an option for real crafts persons… LIVE! 2. Careful with whom I spend time and share my dreams. My circle is fierce on purpose.
3. Take your time: Always make time to invest in rebooting and refreshing. Take a vacation or day-caction. Get sleep by any means necessary. Stay active/fit.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
My best friend ( my chosen sister) has been most helpful. Watching her navigate success and share so willingly the things that work for her have proven invaluable as I’m growing.. She is kind (notice that I did not say nice*there is a difference) and firm. Kind enough to pour love into me and my dreams but firm enough to call me on my shortcomings with love insuring me to always be my best self. . We have a respect and love for one another and we enjoy each other’s company. She is a Godsend. I love you Tabitha Brown.
