We recently connected with Nicholas Boyce and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Nicholas, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
My with ethic is my own unique form of motivation. It comes from seeing the unhinged explosion that can be the creative consciousness, and seeing how people bring that shape of themselves into media every day. And I think to myself, if they can do it, then why can’t I?
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
NEC is multifaceted creative who dives into the euphoric idea of breathing life into various diasporas while exploring fashion.
Be it art, poetry, emotions or even history, I choose how I feel I can best express that and generate my own version so you may see what I see in my mind’s eye.
From this accumulated experience, I later launched my business The NECXUS during the COVID period where I now work as a Creative Director and Image Consultant.
At NECXUS I work under the goal “curate dreams with goal of making them reality”. This, along with the slogan “the portal opens” is my way of saying opportunities are always available so long we look forward. A door is already opened if we look in the right places.
I’m proud to say that both platforms have done excellent and have granted me amazing opportunities as I seek to keep improving upon myself.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
At the top of my list would definitely be Community, Clarity and Communication.
Community because I could not have gotten here without help, so having a strong family orientated group has been the backbone of my being here right now.
Clarity because without a direct and focused goal you’ll find yourself being stretched thin and then..what even is your brand? Or what are you? You’ll lose a great chunk of yourself that way and not in a healthy way.
Communication because well simple: you need to make your intentions known. No one can read minds but with care and genuine communication the right help will always find it’s way to you.
My advice for any creative is to just be genuine in all your approaches in the above. Don’t falter and always know when to compromise. Like I said it’s accumulation of experience over time and while you’ll feel frustrated at the start, just keep at it. You’re doing just fine.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I’m eventually hoping to collaborate with artists and models from the world over as I push forward.
My biggest goal and dream is to be in a room with Robert Wun, Wisdom Kaye or even FENTY. Of course that means I have A LOT of work to do.
The folks I am looking to work with are those who are aiming to break away from the norm. Wow and dazzle the crowd and stir so many conversations that it’s talked about into the next year.
Locally I found a few and we’re currently working on some of these ideas as we speak!
