Meet Nicholas Walton

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nicholas Walton. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nicholas below.

Nicholas , we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
My resilience comes from my photography passion – finding beauty and hope in the details and the bigger picture, even when things get tough. Continuously focusing on what i love!

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My photographic journey is an exploration of the art form that allows for self-expression through a lens. It’s about capturing those breathtaking moments that endure forever. The genuine reactions elicited by my work and the profound sense of fulfillment upon capturing an exceptional image fuel my passion. Each photograph in my portfolio is not just an image but a narrative, rich with details of the location, company, and the story behind the shot. Photography, for me, is a powerful instrument for constructing memories.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
To emerging photographers, I offer these key pieces of advice: Firstly, refrain from comparing your work to others, as this can diminish your self-esteem. Secondly, continue to capture images prolifically. The act of photography itself, regardless of the number of discarded shots, is a valuable learning experience. Lastly, familiarize yourself with the technical aspects such as ISO, aperture, and shutter speed. One practical method I found helpful was to carry note cards with these details in my camera bag for quick reference during challenging situations.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
One influential figure in my life was my high school English teacher, Susan Beauchamp. Her guidance illuminated the concept that we each have a unique purpose. She instilled in me the belief that dedicating energy to our passions paves the way for a fulfilling life. The countless conversations with Mrs. Beauchamp have significantly shaped my character; her unwavering support was instrumental during my formative years.
