Meet Nicki Puckett

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nicki Puckett. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Nicki, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

I got my work ethic from playing sports when I was a kid, which taught me discipline, and also desiring to be independent so strongly that I would do anything to achieve that lifestyle.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I am a caricature and pet portrait artist, amongst many other things (Renaissance Woman Vibes!). I love doing them because it makes people very happy and we laugh a lot. I do caricatures at many different events including fairs, weddings, birthdays parties, flea markets, corporate events, crafts fairs – you name it! Caricature artists are like chameleons, you can insert us into many different situations and we can adapt and thrive. I also do individual pet portraits (at a great price), caricatures, and realistic portraits for individual orders. They make excellent custom Christmas gifts!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Faith, Patience, and Persistence.

Faith – I had to find faith in myself as well as God/the universe. You need this to find the ‘open doors’ and also to keep going and not give up.

Patience – Building a business takes time, it won’t happen in a week. Be patient with yourself and the process, it will eventually come.

Persistence – Taking baby steps and working towards small goals is really the only way I can even look at the process without getting totally overwhelmed.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?

There are some things that I absolutely HATE doing – like bookkeeping and other paperwork. I always am putting off these things because I dislike them so much. You just have suck it up and to DO IT or you’ll be sorry at the end of the year when it’s all piled up.
