We were lucky to catch up with Nickolas Deanne recently and have shared our conversation below.
Nickolas, so happy to have you with us today. You are such a creative person, but have you ever had any sort of creativity block along the way? If so, can you talk to us about how you overcame or beat it?
When I face a creativity block, I’ve learned that it all starts with mindset. I don’t wait for inspiration to strike—I take action. I sit down and write honestly about what I’m experiencing in my life: the struggles, the emotions, the raw moments. That vulnerability becomes the foundation of my work. By focusing those feelings into my writing, I transform them into something meaningful—a song that tells my story.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Right now, I’m deep in the creative process of my upcoming album, Astronomy. It carries an easy-going, late-night drive indie rock vibe—something you’d play with the windows down and the world quietly passing by. Every track is a raw, emotional fragment of me. I don’t hold anything back; the songs reflect the feelings I’ve lived through and the truths I’ve had to face.
The entire album is dedicated to someone who means the world to me—a girl whose beauty and spirit remind me of the stars. Astronomy is my way of capturing the stars that are deep in her eyes.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Never let anyone take your dreams from you. Don’t allow their doubts or criticism to define your dreams. Your dreams are yours alone—no one else will ever fully understand them. They weren’t meant to. So don’t hand over the power to decide whether they’re worth fighting for.
Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
Fear is my biggest challenge. I often find myself worrying about how the world will perceive me—how they’ll interpret my music, my lyrics, my vulnerability. There’s a part of me that wonders if my raw emotions will resonate, or if they’ll be misunderstood. But I’ve come to realize that fear is part of the creative process. It means I care deeply. It means I’m putting something real into the world.
Instead of running from it, I try to lean into it. I write from the most honest place I can, even when it’s uncomfortable.
