Meet Nicólas Soul

We were lucky to catch up with Nicólas Soul recently and have shared our conversation below.

Nicólas, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

I feel like for me it came to a point where it physically didn’t feel right anymore. At first, imposter syndrome blindsided me completely and I was in this abyss of self doubt. Everything I did, I overthought. Then, I overthought the overthinking. Am I really a good artist? Is this actually good or of value? Am I a good person like I think I am? Am I valuable? Why should anyone believe in me? These questions constantly attacked me.

Then one day I had a conversation with a friend, and I guess that’s the first step. Getting out of your head and talking to your people. They told me, “Let your thoughts exist. They only become real when you act on them.” What I took from that was not every thought I have needs attention. Sometimes you can just let it exist, feel how it makes you feel, and keep it pushing versus harping on it. It’s not gone be easy, but you start realizing you had a lot of stupid thoughts. And the most stupid of them all is “I’m not good enough.”

Cause you’re you. TF.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

So I call myself a renaissance man because I am striving to be disclipined in multiple fields. The main three being making music, creating films, and creating applications. I’m inspired by artists like Kanye West, Tyler, the Creator, Childish Gambino, and J. Cole. All artists who are talented past just making good raps.

My company NuRenaissance Media LLC is a multimedia company that showcases unique artists who have that same “renaissance” energy. They can do multiple creative things well. That’s what cool to me: when you show range in what you can offer artisically.

NuRenaissance runs a digital magazine and music community called Renaissance Certified. Renaissance Certified aims to provide a platform for hip-hop and R&B artists, highlighting the diversity and talent of the Tennessee music scene beyond its association with country music. It’s both a promotional hub and a cultural initiative to spotlight underrepresented genres and voices.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

In terms of three qualities that were most impactful in my journey, I would say simplifying to clarify your message or brand because the more people that can understand you and your message, the more opportunities arise. So take some time to really hit home like why you or your thing exists.

I would also say high. work ethic. Everyone wants to be a rockstar, but only the disclipined few actually have a chance to actualize their dreams. However WORK SMART, not hard. I mean work hard actually, but if you can delegate a job to someone that will make your process quicker…do that. Time is the only currency.

Lastly, I would say maintain relationships. There are a lot of highs and lows in your journey. Make sure that your team knows how much you appreciate their time and sacrifice. Always show love to your squad. They believed in you before the world did.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?

The number one obstacle that I am facing right now is giving into my distractions or laziness. Sometimes you’ll come home from work and have no energy to work on anything creative. That then creates for me a thought of “I’m slacking off my dreams.” Which in turn made me feel like shit. So then I would lay on my bed for 2-3 hours scrolling through social media. Which would make me feel even more lazy. Pretty soon the day is over and its time to restart and do it all over again.

I’m learning how much what you think impacts what you become. So I’m trying to treat myself with more grace and self love. Like bro you’re justified for feeling tired after work. Just take a quick nap and knock out what you can. 1 percent every day is better than 0 percent.
