We recently connected with Nicolay Jonsson and have shared our conversation below.
Nicolay , we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
A week after I found out I was pregnant with my second baby, I was diagnosed with papillary cancer. I was in my early thirties, healthy – so I thought, and living with no symptoms or signs of cancer. I had no idea what papillary cancer was, and only heard the word cancer. My pregnancy was overshadowed by this diagnosis and all I cared about was that my baby survives whatever treatment was necessary. So, many challenges I had to overcome. The first being, using my voice. I had to use my voice and advocate for myself to convey the importance of what I desired for the treatment my medical team would advise me. No matter what, baby’s health and survival was the utmost importance. Second, was surrendering control. I had no control of the outcome or how my body would take the treatment, so I leaned into my faith. Faith that I would be taken care, my unborn baby would be taken care of, my toddler would be taken care of and my husband would be strong enough to handle whatever the outcome would be. On the day of my surgery, I had no idea if my baby would be ok, and would survive the procedure. The moment before I went under anesthesia, the nurse said to me we will take care of the both you. I woke up and heard baby’s heart beat. We both survived, but still had the road to recovery and treatment so the cancer wouldn’t return. And that is what led me to my current path, Postpartum Health Educator, Pre/Postnatal Yoga teacher and health coach supporting mamas in pregnancy and postpartum. My approach focuses on nourishing the whole self, not just the body, but also the mind and spirit. And that was one of the missing pieces for me, not nourishing all parts of myself. I took care of my physical body, but neglected my emotional body, mental body and spiritual body. Now, I share this approach with mamas so that they can thrive and fee good in their bodies!
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Skills:
(1) Being proactive with taking care of yourself, if I had not gone in to get checked I would have not found out I had cancer as soon as I did
(2) Being an advocate for myself – expressing my needs and goals was extremely important, because my voice matters especially when it comes to my body
(3) Surrendering and trust – once control is release lessons and the ability to flow with what comes is possible rather than forcing and fighting the situation
By sharing this story I hope to
(1) brings awareness to nourishing the body beyond just the physical level but also the emotional, mental and spiritual level.
(2) life happens for you rather than to you and surrendering to the lessons will help move you through the darkness
(3) gratitude – gratitude for all that you have especially your life
