We were lucky to catch up with Nicole Beat recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Nicole, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
“My optimism was instilled in me as a child by my parents, who always encouraged a positive outlook no matter the circumstance. As I’ve grown, I’ve continued to nurture that mindset by reading countless books and attending many business conferences that emphasize the power and importance of optimism. Those experiences have shaped me tremendously. But above all, the greatest source of my optimism is my faith and trust in Jesus Christ—that foundation gives me hope, purpose, and the confidence to face whatever comes my way
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m an interior designer and co-owner of Lloyd Design Team—a boutique design firm I run with my mom, which makes it incredibly special. She started the business when I was a small child, and I grew up watching her transform spaces with vision, creativity, and heart. I’ve loved design for as long as I can remember—especially the art of working with wallpaper, color, and texture to create spaces that truly reflect our clients’ personalities.
What makes us great is not just our eye for beautiful interiors, but our commitment to relationships. We listen deeply, we care about how our clients live, and we want their homes and workspaces to function beautifully while feeling like a true reflection of who they are. Our mother-daughter dynamic gives us a natural balance—blending decades of experience with fresh ideas and a collaborative spirit. Clients love that we bring warmth, joy, and professionalism to each project.
Design isn’t just about looks—it’s about how a space makes you feel, and we’re honored every time we get to help someone create a place they love coming home to.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, I would say the three most impactful qualities in my journey have been resilience, relationship-building, and a willingness to keep learning.
Resilience has helped me bounce back from the unexpected twists that come with running a business and working in creative fields. It’s not always smooth, but staying rooted in purpose has carried me through.
Relationship-building is everything. Interior design is deeply personal—we’re invited into people’s homes and lives—so earning trust and building genuine connections has been key.
And a willingness to learn has kept things fresh. I’ve read so many books, attended countless conferences, and stayed open to new ideas. The best designers never stop being students of life and style.
My advice for those early in their journey is this: stay curious, surround yourself with people who lift you higher, and be selective about who you take advice from. I’ve learned to only take advice from people I’d actually want to trade places with—those who align with my values and who live the kind of life I admire. There’s a lot of noise out there, so it’s important to tune in to the voices that matter most.
Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
Our ideal client is someone who appreciates beautiful things—but also values their time. They’re decisive (or at least aspire to be), have great taste (or trust us to have it for them), and understand that thoughtful design is an investment in how you live and feel in your space.
They’re the kind of person who doesn’t want to scroll endlessly or drive to twelve showrooms. They want a curated experience, tailored solutions, and spaces that feel custom—not copy-paste. They’re busy building businesses, running households, or planning their next trip to Italy—so they partner with us to handle the details.
We love clients who value quality craftsmanship, timeless design, and a touch of the unexpected. And while a good sense of humor isn’t required, it’s always welcome—because let’s face it, design should be as joyful as the final reveal.
