Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nicole Chang. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Nicole, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
Through consistent self work and reflection on achievements, no matter how big or small. Getting out of my comfort zone and letting go of being perceived – embracing living life on my own terms. Surrounding myself with positive influences has been crucial. There will be people that will want to “humble” you – these are the people you can’t share good news with. Not everyone who wants to befriend you actually wants to be a friend, and it’s easy to fall victim to another’s self projection if you let them. I prioritize genuine connections and don’t leave room for hatred. My upbringing plays a huge role in how I carry myself, it has always been heavily enforced that others opinions of me don’t serve a purpose and shouldn’t dictate my happiness. It’s evident that no matter what you do or how you look, someone will always have something to say – so you might as well do what makes you happy and say f*ck it. When you remember self worth is not defined by others, but by you – you grow tremendously. The grass is greener where you water it.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I have been pin-up modeling for a few years now, and have had the pleasure of working with/collaborating with businesses that have made a mark in the vintage scene ( so excited for what the future has in store! ) Growing up I was very appreciative of different genres/fashions/lifestyles. Rockabilly, cholabilly, goth, punk, vintage glamour, ect I liked it all. Being experimental with my look / fashion taste meant incorporating bits and pieces of whatever I admired in my wardrobe. Growing up with a very eccentric stylish grandma plays a huge role *laughs*. No one does it like her – color, print ,texture, accessories, etc. I was addicted to body piercings and my vice was getting a new one every week , maybe every two *laughs* and shaving off my eyebrows for maybe a decade or so was a beloved era that I like to think was my signature. Looking alien-like brought me joy – decided to grow them back out during the pandemic, and have enjoyed the ride since. I hope to possibly inspire others, by marching to the beat of my own drum and doing me the best way I see fit. Forming and representing your brand the way YOU believe is best leads to building solid connections, sharing ideas, and potentially opening doors to new projects and experiences.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I’d definitely say professionalism, confidence, and good communication.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
I’d have to say being unconditionally supportive, speaking such loving and positive words, and always expressing excitement towards my achievements/opportunities.
