Meet Nicole Farrell

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nicole Farrell a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Nicole, thank you so much for joining us and offering your lessons and wisdom for our readers. One of the things we most admire about you is your generosity and so we’d love if you could talk to us about where you think your generosity comes from.

When our oldest son Colton was diagnosed with brain cancer it felt as if the entire world opened its arms with generosity and love. When we decided to start Marble Candle Company we wanted to give back to others just as fiercely.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Marble Candle Company was started after our son Colton was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2017. Support and love came flooding in and we needed a way to “pay it forward” to families going through medically hard times, specifically the horrible and aw inspiring journey of childhood cancer.

Our mission is to donate $1.00, at the end of each year, for every candle we sold that year. In 2023 Colton passed away at the age of 11 and we donated $1,500.00 in his name to Children’s Hospital of Colorado, toward family support and cancer research.

Through making candles as a family we have been able to make sacred memories and spread, love, support and awareness to others.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Perseverance, organization and flexibility are the top three qualities that have helped our company succeed, in the face of a pandemic and the death of our son Colton. Keep going even when it seems your company’s growth is slow. Remember to stay organized through the storm, so when opportunity knocks; preparation answers the door. Flexibility to change direction and course when needed has been a great asset, allowing us to “do life” while still building a business that can give back in a way that feels good for the soul.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?

I think feeling overwhelmed is part of owning a business. Everyone is relying on you, whether it’s an employee or a client. Things can spiral very quickly and to keep calm and take just one small step at a time is the best advice I could give.
