We were lucky to catch up with Nicole Hector recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Nicole , so great to have you on the platform. There’s so much we want to ask you, but let’s start with the topic of self-care. Do you do anything for self-care and if so, do you think it’s had a meaningful impact on your effectiveness?
My self-care is so important for me. So much so that I created an entire career for myself around the concept. I do a lot of things for self-care but there is one thing that I think has made the most impact for me and allowed me to be productive and effective daily. That is to have non-negotiables in place. I make sure that there are things in my life and self-care routine that are absolutely non-negotiable. Once example is my day off. Each week I have one day in which I do nothing except for what feels good for me. On this day I schedule my self-care appointments, I don’t work on this day, and I have my husband take over the household and child care duties. This ensures that at least one time a week I get the time I need for myself to rest, reset, restore, and replenish. I get a physical and mental break, which in turn helps me be more productive in the days that follow. Having non-negotiables is really important for my self-care and it has helped make me a better person overall. I have boundaries, but also it keeps me accountable to myself.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a Holistic Facialist and Self Care Coach. What I do is encourage and empower women to infuse self-care into their daily lives for a more fulfilling existence. Skin care is just one way in which I encourage self-care implementation for those who are seeking rest, relaxation, along with a radiant complexion. My work is so special and important to me because I’ve been able to utilize my own personal self-care journey as inspiration for my work with others. I love that my story is helping other women to realize the importance of actively caring for themselves. I truly enjoy seeing their transformations over time and the joy that it brings them. My work is so impactful and there’s definitely a need for it everywhere so, I am currently working to expand my network beyond my local community to work with women virtually.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three qualities that were most impactful on my journey were tenacity, grit, and grace. For women who are intending to pursue careers in the health and wellness space I advise them to have bigger guts than goals. Be prepared to have to push HARD for what you believe in, it’s not going to be easy to make a name for yourself. Don’t give up, keep going even when it’s super hard. If it hurts it’s because it’s worth fighting for. Once you’ve proven yourself and people start to see your worth the same way you do, be graceful about sharing your talents and help the next woman behind you to realize her potential as well.
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
My biggest area of growth personally in the past 12 months has been my confidence level. I hit 5 years in business and the realization that the work I do is necessary, impactful, and profitable was so eye-opening. I know that I’m doing the right thing, I know that my purpose in life is to help others, I know that I can’t stop. It took me too long to feel confident enough in my own abilities and expertise to vocalize this. I’m sure I missed out on opportunities because of it. But that wont happen any more. I make a difference in the lives of others and I’m deserving of the acknowledgment for it. I’m an award winning Facialist for a reason. My clients truly love and appreciate what I do for them. It took me 5 years but I’m confident in my knowledge, in my skillset, and in my belief in myself and my abilities.
