We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nicole Kahari a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Nicole , thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
Is imposter syndrome something you can ever fully overcome? That is the real question… for me.
We live in a society where we’re increasingly connected and see everything perfect about the next person’s life. What that does is trigger some introspection, a little self-evaluation, or even comparison with those who look like they are what you’re striving to become or have what you’re working to attain. And if you’re not careful and allow your thoughts to spiral, this can easily become the manifestation of imposter syndrome. Questioning everything, overanalysing, and undervaluing one’s achievements. It’s a quick and easy downward spiral that can lead to your demise, resulting in the abandonment of that which you love because you don’t trust your capabilities anymore. That’s an experience I’m all too familiar with, unfortunately.
Overcoming it is a slow process, but all progress should be celebrated, no matter how small. It requires just going for it. Doing things even while feeling doubt, fear, or lacking confidence. I also find falling back on my support system as something that has really pushed me a lot. Sometimes all you need is a little extra push from someone who believes in you to help encourage you to take that scary first step. Surround yourself with people and things that only feed positively into what you’re working to achieve and cut off any negativity where possible.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Hi, Nicole here. I’m just a girl. As for what I do? I’m doing my best.
Jokes aside, I am a multi-faceted creative. I work full-time as a Copywriter at an advertising agency, I’m a voiceover artist, I do social media management, and I am a visual content creator. As a result of my interests, I am chronically online but I’m not complaining because I genuinely love what I do.
Growing up, when I was still undecided about what I would do professionally, my only wish was that I wouldn’t have to work in a super strict, routine-based, suit-and-tie environment and I can gladly say I’m living young Nicole’s dream. My work is mentally stimulating, my routine is never constant, I’m consistently learning new things and I always have something new to look forward to. I believe it keeps my mind young and I also get motivation to look forward to my days ahead.
Feel free to indulge yourself in my kind of visual storytelling @kalnicfit on Instagram and TikTok and @nicolakalamari on YouTube. The things I share on those platforms are mainly for me to look back to one day and reminisce about my youth however, I do enjoy the engagement I get and appreciate the fact that I too can put a smile on the next person’s face through the content I share.
As for the voiceovers, I literally just fell into that line of work and I am grateful that I did because it has led to many great opportunities, including working with international NGOs.
Copywriting and social media management are other things I just happened to fall into. Someone thought I’d be good at it and asked me to try it full-time, and I decided to just go with the flow because why not? I got to learn on the job and now I’m here four years later, still doing it.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I’ll start with the most important thing for me, and that’s staying curious. I recognise the fact that learning never ends and as human beings, we will never know everything but we can definitely try to learn as much as we can. And there are so many ways to apply the knowledge personally and professionally. I’m a firm believer in the fact a person who is always ready to learn is a person who is capable of doing great things.
Secondly, I believe it’s important to have good people skills. Learn how to engage in conversation with anyone and everyone. Understand how to interact with people from different walks of life, and show genuine interest in what they have to say. This is a skill that transcends introversion, extroversion, and ambiversion. It’s important for personal and professional progression.
Last but not least, have a firm belief system and ensure that no matter what you do or who engages you, you only participate in things that align with your beliefs. Never compromise for money, fame, or influence because you’ll have to keep compromising to be able to maintain whatever you may gain.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
Reading the book Atomic Habits felt like gaining access to life’s cheat code. Learning about how to break down major goals into more easily achievable tasks that will eventually make way for success was so mind-blowing to me. It gave perspective on how we as humans can accomplish anything as long as we are truly intentional about how we work towards it.
As a creature of habit myself, I really got to appreciate the way the book broke down how to build and maintain habits and I got to analyze my life and how I have gone about building habits to see what has truly been impactful and effective for me and how I can go a step further with guidance from the information shared in the book.
My most valuable lesson is knowing that all big things come from small beginnings. We all start somewhere. And every small effort made towards accomplishing a goal compounds over time. It’s all a matter of discipline, consistency, and lots of learning and unlearning.
