Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nicole Marie Quinn. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Nicole Marie, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
I strive to be unique in my performances & also in my songwriting. So keeping my creativity alive is paramount to my objectives & living my dreams. When I write my original songs, I combine my personal experiences with things I’ve witnessed and learned from others. I typically have a narrative & a character in mind when I create both the lyrics and the melody. My performances usually have a theatrical style to them because I am bringing a story to life through my music. I appreciate the chance to have conversations with others where I can delve into details about things they’ve seen & experienced. I enjoy interacting with people everywhere I go. This allows me the amazing opportunity to constantly expand my knowledge, experience new things & stay energized with more ideas. So all of the wonderful people I meet are the secret behind boosting my creativity. Their constant gift of inspiration allows me the ability to create new music that shares our stories & makes a beautiful connection with people that we’ve never even met.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a singer, pianist & songwriter with a wide vocal range and diversity of styles from sultry to powerhouse. My list of genres include Blues, Rock, R&B, Rock, Pop, Jazz, Country, Classics & Originals. I like to take songs & completely revamp them with a new twist. I give my listeners some familiarity combined with an element of surprise. I’m also adding more original songs. My unique show keeps people engaged & wondering what I’m going to do next. I’m most proud of the moments where I feel & see the connection with my audience. Knowing my talents bring joy & music therapy to others is very rewarding. And I’m so grateful to be able to what I love for a living.
Being able to share my passion & love for music with others is so wonderful! Knowing my talents bring joy & music therapy to others is very rewarding. The experience of connecting with my audience in a live show is amazing! It motivates me to keep growing with my skills. And it encourages me as a songwriter!
My goal of songwriting is one of the most powerful driving forces in my creative journey. Being able to express feelings through music is something that I cherish. Creating the best melody that pairs well with the right lyrics to represent a particular feeling or experience can sometimes be a challenge. But when it finally happens, it’s magical! The ability to create something so unique from your own perspective while providing familiarity to others who can relate & connect is an incredible achievement . I am excited about enhancing my skills & continuing my journey as a songwriter. Knowing that I’m able to help others heal through the power of music is something very near & dear to my heart.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Perseverance, a positive mindset & having a supportive tribe are three things that continue to have a significant impact in my journey. Years ago, I never imagined I would have the chance to live my dream as a professional musician. But I’ve learned that when you think positively, stay focused & spend more time with the right people then you can accomplish extraordinary goals. If you apply these principles & stay the course on your own path then you will be amazed with all the blessings that will come your way. I am very grateful every single day that I get to do what I love.
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
My biggest area of growth in the past year has been performing with other musicians. I started out as a solo performer. And now I have a duo, trio & full band version of my show. Collaborating with others has been very rewarding. I’ve learned so many new things, experienced more genres & styles and had even more fun performing on stage. It has brought out the best of me, which in turn has the audience enjoying my shows even more. I am very grateful for all of my fellow musicians who continue to inspire me. I’m very excited about my new band “Nicole Marie Quinn & The Dreamcatchers”. I am blessed beyond measure.
