We recently connected with Nicole Newby and have shared our conversation below.
Nicole , we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
Confidence and self-esteem are ongoing lessons something I build day by day. From a personal perspective, every time I follow through on a goal, keep a promise to myself, or push through something that made me nervous, I strengthen my internal track record. Little by little, I prove to myself, “I can count on me.” And the more I practice anything, the less intimidating it becomes.
Adversity has shaped me just as much. Surviving painful or difficult seasons built a strength I didn’t always recognize. When you make it through something you thought would break you, you suddenly realize, “If I got through that, I can handle anything.” I’ve overcome more than most could imagine, and each trial added another layer to my confidence.
From a business perspective, self-expression has become a foundation for my self-belief. Creativity, entrepreneurship, and leadership fuel my confidence. Designing bags, launching my jewelry line, and bringing new ideas to life make me feel like I’m stepping into my power and I feel like I can do anything even on days when I don’t feel 100%.
Every challenge an unhappy customer, a delayed shipment, a design revision, a miscommunication has added to my business confidence. Every setback has taught me resilience. And ultimately, passion and persistence are what keep my confidence growing.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m truly excited about my future and the direction my work is heading. I’m an entrepreneur, creative designer, and mentor, and my brand continues to grow in ways that feel both intentional and deeply meaningful to me. I design custom pieces primarily for organizations and community groups and I’m currently working on new collections for even more organizations. Creativity has always been a part of who I am, but building a business around it has taught me so much about discipline, vision, and trusting my own gifts.
One of the most exciting developments is the expansion of my business. We’re adding staff, increasing our production capacity, and preparing to move into a warehouse space. This is a major milestone it represents growth, stability, and the ability to serve more customers while elevating the quality and reach of the brand.
What makes THE BLAQUE COLLECTION stand out from others is me. It’s my vision, my creativity, my eye for detail, and the personal touch I put into every design. My brand is a reflection of who I am bold, intentional, and rooted in meaning. I don’t just create products; I create pieces that tell a story, honor community, and make people feel proud of what they represent.
Another passion of mine is mentorship, and I’m thrilled about a new opportunity to work with students in grades 3–8, teaching entrepreneurship. This role brings me so much joy because it allows me to pour into the next generation. Sharing the gift of entrepreneurship, showing young people that their ideas matter, and helping them build confidence is one of the most fulfilling parts of my work.
Mentorship teaches you a lot about who you are and who you want to become. It stretches you, challenges you, and builds confidence, self-esteem, and pride not just in the students, but in yourself as a mentor. Being able to serve, uplift, and inspire is something I never take for granted.
Overall, my journey is rooted in creativity, service, and constant evolution. I hope my story encourages others to believe in their vision, trust their process, and know that growth is always possible.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, the three qualities that have had the biggest impact on my journey are creativity, resilience, and self-belief.
1. Creativity
My creativity is the heart of everything I do it’s what shapes my designs, inspires my ideas, and sets my brand apart. Creativity allows you to see possibilities where others see limits.
Advice:
Develop your creativity by staying curious. Try new things, study different art forms, and don’t be afraid to experiment. Creativity grows when you give yourself permission to imagine without fear of judgment.
2. Resilience
Entrepreneurship is full of challenges, and resilience kept me moving when things didn’t go as planned. I learned to turn setbacks into lessons and use adversity as fuel instead of something that stops me.
Advice:
Build resilience by embracing the small challenges. When something goes wrong, instead of quitting, ask yourself: What is this teaching me? Each time you push through a difficult moment, you strengthen your capacity to handle the next one.
3. Self-Belief
Confidence and self-esteem didn’t come overnight they were built through consistency, showing up for myself, and trusting my own vision. Believing in myself is what allowed me to take risks, expand my business, and dream bigger.
Advice:
Strengthen self-belief by keeping promises to yourself. Set small goals and follow through. Every time you do what you said you would, you build your internal track record. Over time, that becomes unshakable confidence.
Advice to anyone in the early stages of there journey.
Start where you are, use what you have, and trust that you are capable of growing into everything you see for yourself. Your journey won’t be perfect but it will be worth it. Stay consistent, stay open to learning, and let your passion lead the way.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities, or knowledge you needed to be successful?
The person who has influenced me the most and pushed me to grow through every challenge is my daughter. Motherhood is one of the most demanding yet rewarding roles anyone can have. It has taught me communication, understanding, empathy, patience, and the importance of keeping an open mind. When certain parenting approaches didn’t work, I had to get creative. I had to pay attention to the details and truly learn her.
In many ways, it mirrors business. When designing for a customer, you have to communicate, understand their needs, and pay attention to what works for them. As a parent, giving up isn’t an option no matter how difficult things get. In business, the expectation is the same.
Amor’e has changed my life. She continues to inspire me and push me to be the best version of myself for her, and for everything I build.
