Hi Nicole, so excited to have you with us today, particularly to get your insight on a topic that comes up constantly in the community – overcoming creativity blocks. Any thoughts you can share with us?
Writing a one-woman show was the most rewarding, cathartic experience of my life, and also, the most challenging. Overcoming self-imposed limitations like writer’s block wasn’t so horrible once I implemented these 3 tools:

1. Don’t write, improvise! Getting out of my head and into my body was key to igniting my creative fire. In order to go from improv to pages written, I’d respond to writer’s prompts by embodying character(s), and what I discovered was a world that allowed me to discover freely. Improv revealed gems to me that sitting down, writing at my desk, could never.

2. Get support! I had excellent accountability with a director and producer who set firm deadlines. Having a team lovingly get in my ass, gave me the support I needed to complete my script on time.

3. Manage your time! The Pomodoro Method proved to be a helpful time management tool throughout my process. As someone with ADHD, staying focused can be tricky, but working for 25 minutes followed by a 5-minute break allowed me to complete four cycles a day and see significant progress in my script.

Through my unique process, I learned to be fearless and try different things until I discovered what worked for me.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Debuting my one-woman show, The Evolution Will Not Be Televised, was a literal dream come true. I poured so much of my life, my point of view, and my response to the evils and joys of the world into this piece, and that’s why I’m so excited to go on tour. I’m eager to connect with new audiences, share my story, and engage in discussion.

Announcement!
Hosting live shopping shows with brands like Zappos and Elf Cosmetics has been the dream I didn’t know I needed. Connecting with my audience, sharing my favorite products, swatching makeup, and/or helping them style looks-all online, it’s so fun. I’m expanding on that dream by launching an Amazon storefront called, The Homegirl Shopping Network.
I’m absolutely thrilled to support and promote Black and Brown owned businesses, authors, and artisans in my Amazon storefront. My shop consists of items inspired by wellness and personal growth. You can shop anything from books to cute, comfy sneakers. I pride myself on being more of a saver than a spender, nonetheless, I believe in treating yourself to something that will yield growth. I believe in gifts as a love language. I believe in paying it forward. I believe The Homegirl Shopping Network will help shoppers do just that.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Curiosity will take you places judgment cannot. Be curious about your process. Throw as many darts at the board until you see what sticks. Have fun while doing it. I’d also suggest, squading up! Align with like minded people who are about action over excuses. If you don’t know them yet, don’t be afraid to lead. Don’t be afraid to GET BRAND NEW, exude the energy you wish to attract, and eventually, you’ll attract it.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
By leveling up my spiritual practice, I was able to set bold goals for myself in 2023. Running my first marathon in my Dad’s home country, Nevis, West Indies, and debuting my one woman show are two milestones that reinforced my personal power.
