Meet Nicole Thompson

We were lucky to catch up with Nicole Thompson recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Nicole, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

Resilience has come from learning how to adapt and keep moving forward, even when things don’t go as planned. Running a business, raising a family, and continuing my education has taught me how to stay focused, flexible, and grounded under pressure.

Photography constantly reinforces that mindset. No two sessions are the same, and learning to work with changing light, energy, and circumstances has helped me develop confidence in both my work and myself. Staying resilient means trusting the process, staying present, and continuing to show up with intention.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I’m the owner and photographer behind Humble + Honey Photography, specializing in family, maternity, birth, and milestone sessions. My work focuses on connection and storytelling — capturing real moments in a natural, timeless way.

What makes my work special is the long-term relationships I build with families. I often photograph clients year after year, documenting their lives as they grow and change. This allows me to create images that feel personal and familiar, rather than posed or forced.

My style is rooted in natural light, movement, and warm, neutral tones. I aim to create photographs that feel genuine and reflective of each family’s dynamic.

In addition to photography, I’m pursuing my Master of Social Work, which has strengthened my ability to create a calm, supportive experience for my clients and approach my work with empathy and intention.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

1. Connection
The ability to make people feel comfortable and seen is everything. Strong images come from trust, not just technical skill.
Advice: Focus on people first. Learn how to read energy, listen well, and create a relaxed experience — the photos will follow.

2. Adaptability
Every session brings unexpected moments, whether it’s changing light, weather, or energy.
Advice: Stay flexible and learn to work with what you’re given instead of trying to control everything.

3. Consistency
Success doesn’t come from one great shoot, but from showing up again and again.
Advice: Keep learning, keep refining your style, and don’t rush the process. Growth happens over time.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?

I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have support from several places at different stages of my journey. My family has been my foundation, offering encouragement and stability while I balance business, school, and motherhood.

Professionally, my assistant, Kelle, has been instrumental in helping Humble + Honey grow. Having someone I trust supporting the behind-the-scenes allows me to focus fully on my clients and creative work.

I’ve also learned so much from the community around me — fellow photographers, creatives, clients, and other small business owners. Their shared knowledge, encouragement, and perspective have shaped both my work and the way I approach business.

Success, for me, has never been a solo effort. It’s been built through collaboration, support, and learning from the people who’ve walked alongside me.
