Meet Nicole Veliz

We were lucky to catch up with Nicole Veliz recently and have shared our conversation below.

Nicole, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

I found my purpose when I was helping someone very close to me navigate through an extremely challenging divorce and life transition. I’ve been fortunate in that financial planning has always come natural to me, so it only seemed right to help someone close to me in need. I essentially helped get her life back on track by teaching her to start over as a single person. I taught her how to take care of herself financially on one income, set up a budget and goals, pay off debt, and eventually start saving. We worked through an entire mindset change together. Then I did it for some other people close in my network and the business just developed from there! I always knew I wanted to open a business but never knew where to start. I didn’t realize doing something that I do for myself without thinking about it would turn into a business! I quickly learned that I had passion for helping people, especially women starting over from a life change. It gives me so much joy and happiness knowing that I can help people during a time of uncertainty. My future dream is to open a non-profit to help others as well.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I am a financial coach and I help people with behavioral mindset change. I specialize in providing tailored financial coaching services to individuals and families seeking to take control of their finances through education and guidance. Areas of focus include budgeting and expense management, debt management and elimination, credit management, goal setting and prioritization, and building savings.

I am passionate about financial coaching because it’s important to me to make a difference. I help individuals and families work through various types of situations. I am naturally a people person, and I love to help others. I focus on creating individual relationships and my clients are not just a number to me. My goal is to understand the personal elements that lead to their financial decisions to really get to know the person and develop that interpersonal rapport. With this approach, I focus on understanding their spending habits more and get to know what’s important to them.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

My three best qualities are empathy, accountability and building strong connections. Talking about money is a sensitive topic. I create a safe space where there is no judgement as it’s common for people to feel vulnerable with sharing their financial situation. I feel for people with financial struggles as everyone has different circumstances and I want to help as much as I can! I am an extrovert and building strong relationships is extremely important to me! I will be your accountability partner throughout it all. I always say, “We’re in this together” and I truly mean that which is why I create a fully customizable plan tailored to fit your needs.

The advice I have for those early in their journey is don’t give up on your dreams of having a business or give up too soon. There are a lot of obstacles that come along with it, but it’s so worth it instead of always wondering what could be. You got this!

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?

My biggest obstacle is growing my business. Money is a taboo topic and people don’t want to talk about it or let anyone know that their situation is less than perfect. That is why word of mouth is crucial to my business. I also get my clients through partnerships as well. I have established several working relationships with people within the financial services industry and local business partners from different industries within the community. I try to overcome it by going to several networking events and try network as much as possible to get my name out there!
