Meet Nik Lub

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nik Lub. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nik below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Nik with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?

I am blessed to have grown up with incredible role models. Both my parents and grandparents had to overcome a lot of adversity and never shied away from the challenges life gave them. My work ethic is also heavily influenced from watching and listening to the stories of my father’s life experience. He had to overcome a lot, forced to leave his home and family in Argentina to make a life for himself in the U.S. After enduring so much he was able to establish himself, start a successful business and pursue his passions. My mother was also a big influence in my work ethic. She started and ran her own business as an artist while finding time to teach art classes and carry out individual projects at home all while raising two kids. She was, and still is, always encouraging of my artistic development, if I ever wanted to learn how to do a specific medium she would find time and a way for me to learn or for us to do it together.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I am currently responsible for the production of my family’s jewelry line. Together we have been handcrafting artisan copper bracelets for over 55 years. I love working with copper as a medium, it’s an incredibly unique material that has been worn throughout history. Over the last few years I’ve been working on my own line of copper bracelets having just released many new designs. I love the intersection of artistry, design and the making of tools to make something new. Right now I am working on introducing my work in sterling silver as well as launching some completely new lines in the near future. My goals are to find ways to keep making art and crafts in the U.S.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

I support any one who is willing to take the risk and leap into trying something new, doing something themselves and venturing into the unknown. It can be super intimidating, battling self doubt and overcoming obstacles that will arise. But it’s getting through the challenges that make the whole experience gratifying. My advice to anyone would be if there is a will there’s a way. Take risks, push forward, always be open to learn and adapt and constantly re-invest in yourself. Three skills that have helped me would be perseverance, finding ways to gain a different perspective and an insatiable curiosity to learn. Don’t be afraid to reach out to others, I’ve had many mentors that have helped me on my journey and I’m always open to helping others if I can.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

Absolutely! I would love to collaborate with other artists and designers that are interested in showing their work in jewelry. I’ve also been really wanting to start making jewelry that helps support specific causes, collaborating with nonprofits where the proceeds of specific designs go directly to them. My father was able to do this a bit and I have made a few attempts but it’s difficult to get the right combination of design and opportunity to make it work. I am hoping to be able to achieve this with some new lines I am working on. Any artist wanting to connect can reach me through the contact on our website: sergiolub.com.
