Meet Nika Randall

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nika Randall a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Nika , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

In the bustling city of Los Angeles where I spent my childhood, my father’s dental office stood as a beacon of determination and perseverance. He had arrived in America with little more than a dream and a relentless drive to build a better future for our family. His journey from Iran, where opportunities were scarce, to establishing a thriving practice in a new land was a testament to his unwavering work ethic.

I remember the early mornings when he would leave for the office, a briefcase in hand and determination etched on his face. He worked tirelessly, often well into the evening, ensuring each patient received not just dental care, but a sense of compassion and dedication that became synonymous with his practice.

As a child, I would sometimes accompany him to the office on weekends, marveling at the efficiency with which he managed his time and the genuine care he showed for his patients. His office was more than a place of work; it was a sanctuary where he transformed smiles and built relationships that transcended mere appointments.

His dedication did not go unnoticed. Patients would often remark on his meticulous attention to detail and his genuine concern for their well-being. Behind the scenes, I watched him handle the intricacies of running a business—managing schedules, balancing finances, and constantly striving to improve his skills through continuing education.

His work ethic was not confined to the office alone. At home, he remained a pillar of strength and responsibility, always finding time to support my education and nurture my aspirations. He taught me the value of hard work through his own example—showing me that success is not just about achieving goals, but about the dedication and perseverance invested in every endeavor.

As I grew older, his lessons became ingrained in my approach to life. I took on part-time jobs during high school and college, striving to excel in academics while learning the ropes of responsibility and commitment. His words echoed in my mind whenever faced with challenges, urging me to push forward with resilience and determination. When I graduated and began my own career, his guidance continued to shape my path. Today, as I reflect on my journey and the values instilled in me by my father, I am grateful for the foundation he laid. His resilience, his determination, and his unwavering belief in the power of hard work continue to inspire me, guiding my steps as I strive to make a meaningful impact in my own journey.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Being an esthetician and cosmetic tattoo artist specializing in microblading and lip blush is more than just a career—it’s a passion that allows me to transform lives through artistry and confidence.

Microblading and lip blush are two highly specialized techniques within the realm of cosmetic tattooing. Microblading involves meticulously implanting pigment into the skin using fine, hair-like strokes to create natural-looking eyebrows. It’s a meticulous process that requires both technical skill and an artistic eye to ensure symmetry and balance that enhances the client’s facial features.

On the other hand, lip blush enhances the natural shape and color of the lips, giving them a subtle, flushed appearance. It’s perfect for clients who want to achieve fuller-looking lips without the daily hassle of applying lipstick.

What makes these procedures so special and exciting is the profound impact they have on my clients’ confidence and self-esteem. Many of my clients come to me feeling insecure about sparse eyebrows or faded lip color, and it’s incredibly rewarding to see their joy and satisfaction when they look in the mirror after the procedure.I get to combine my love for beauty and artistry with the ability to make a tangible difference in people’s lives. It’s not just about creating beautiful brows or enhancing lip color—it’s about empowering my clients to feel confident and beautiful in their own skin.

Moreover, building relationships with my clients is one of the most fulfilling aspects of my job. I get to hear their stories, understand their unique preferences, and collaborate with them to achieve their desired look. Every client is different, and being able to tailor my services to meet their individual needs is both a challenge and a privilege.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

1. Master your craft
2. Have attention to detail
3. Client communication and consultation skills

My advice would be to seek mentorship by finding experienced estheticians or cosmetic tattoo artists who can guide you and provide constructive feedback on your work. Invest in yourself and continue to learn with ongoing education to stay updated with industry advancements and refine your skills. Document your progress and showcase with a portfolio on social media to reach potential clients and employers. Attend industry events, join professional organizations, and engage with online communities to build connections and stay informed about opportunities and trends.

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?

My ideal client is someone who desires natural results and has realistic expectations. They are willing to work collaboratively and are open to my professional direction regarding what looks best. My ideal client values avoiding the latest trends and instead focuses on achieving a timeless, enhanced look. They appreciate a thoughtful and balanced approach, ensuring that the outcomes are both aesthetically pleasing and sustainable over time. Our partnership is built on mutual respect, trust, and a shared commitment to excellence.
