We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nikei Salas. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nikei below.
Nikei, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
My optimism comes from choosing to rise above past circumstances. To create my own narrative opposed to those said from others.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I created Nikei S Salas Holistic Coaching years ago because of a need. When I worked as a nurse, I noticed that patients desired more than physical treatment but yearned for their souls to be touched in a positive way. I also observed that I was seeking the same. From this business I wrote my first book, “Black Girl Gone Guru” to inspire readers to transform obstacles into advantages (life-lessons.) My second book, “He Poisoned Me and Left Me for Dead” followed as a supernatural tale of fiction but also a guide to assist others to their healing. When our souls (emotions) are affected negatively it blocks us from growth and joyous experiences. Which is the reasoning of me sharing my life through travel, exercising, and other things I do that promote my well-being to encourage others to do the same.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
My best qualities are determination, compassion, and curiosity. Determination was birthed from situations I overcame which were a lot. I grew up in a town south of Chicago that had problems of drugs, violence and poverty. I chose to be my own statistic of flipping where I came from into, I can go where I want (mentally, physically, and emotionally.) My compassion comes from the same. My past has taught me to see and listen to my clients because I have been through similar events to them. My curiosity to know, learn, more of myself to expand my growth helps me to assist others.
Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
I remember being in nursing school and having moments of doubt. Then I came upon the book “Reinventing the Body, Resurrecting the Soul” by Deepak Chopra. It taught me how low emotions can affect every part of us. When I read how our blood reacts to how we feel it opened my eyes wide. I wanted to evaluate the theory by having my blood tested. After going through a stressful event, a holistic practitioner examined a drop of my blood. The findings were as Deepak Chopra stated in his book. I am reminded of that often as I continue my own life journey. And that is why I say, “Do what is well for your soul.”
