Meet Nikhila Davis

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nikhila Davis. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nikhila below.

Hi Nikhila, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.

I’ve always considered myself an optimistic person. I played competitive tennis from a young age through college and even in some professional tournaments, and one of the biggest lessons tennis teaches you is that a match isn’t over until the very last point. No matter how far behind you are, there’s always a chance to come back. I’ve carried that mindset into life—while I’ve certainly made mistakes, I focus on learning from them rather than dwelling on them, and I believe I can always take steps to improve and move forward.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

My journey with Kalasi Cellars started with a love for wine and a curiosity about how it’s made. I wanted to create a place where people could not only enjoy great Texas wines but also have experiences that feel personal and memorable. What I love most is seeing people connect—friends laughing over a tasting, someone discovering a wine they never expected to love, or a couple celebrating a milestone.

For me, Kalasi is about more than just wine; it’s about creating moments and experiences that bring people together. Lately, we’ve been exploring ways to make those moments even richer, with special dinners, cultural experiences, and limited wine releases that celebrate both Texas terroir and global inspiration. At the heart of it, I want people to always feel welcome, as if they were a part of Kalasi all along—because Kalasi means ‘together.’

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, three things have really shaped my journey: optimism, resilience, and curiosity. Optimism helped me see possibilities even when things felt impossible—something I first learned on the tennis court, where a match isn’t over until the last point. Resilience has been key too—taking risks, making mistakes, and learning to move forward without dwelling on setbacks. And curiosity has kept me exploring, learning new skills, and figuring out ways to make Kalasi a space people love.

I’d also say it’s okay to be the odd duck. You might be doing things differently than everyone else, and that’s actually a strength. But the most important part is believing in yourself—because if you don’t, no one else will. For anyone early in their journey, my advice is to embrace who you are, keep learning, take risks, and trust that your perspective and passion have value.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?

The most impactful thing my parents did for me was show me what it means to work hard and believe in yourself. As immigrants, they always put me first, making sure I had opportunities they didn’t. They taught me to appreciate how fortunate we are to be in a country where we can create our own path and start anything we want. That perspective—of gratitude, hard work, and self-belief—has shaped how I approach life and my work with Kalasi, giving me the confidence to take risks and pursue my passions fully.
