Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nikki Ausdemore. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Nikki , we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
Building confidence and self-esteem has been a lifelong journey for me. Like many others, I faced significant challenges with my confidence and self-worth throughout my teens, twenties, and even into my thirties. It wasn’t until my forties that I truly began to make meaningful progress in this area, and the work continues now that I am fifty.
This journey has involved a profound process of self-acceptance and self-love. Embracing who I am, without apology, has been key to developing my confidence. Recognizing that I am exactly who I am meant to be, with all my strengths and flaws, has allowed me to accept myself fully. This understanding has brought me a deep sense of peace and has been instrumental in building my self-esteem.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a 50 year old wife to Chris and mom to 4 amazing young adults and teens. I am a breast cancer survivor and entrepreneur. Orange Blossom Bookkeeping is my 4th business over the last 25 years. I love working for myself and growing businesses! My past work revolved primarily around the birth community. I was a doula, childbirth educator, student midwife, and placenta encapsulator. After undergoing treatment for cancer I re-entered the workforce as a maternity advocate for a health share organization. I loved the work, but really wanted to be my own boss again. I served women in the birth space for so many years and wanted to serve the women who serve the birthing women. My target clients are midwives, doulas, and other women-owned, service-based businesses who serve women. Birth is in my blood and I strive to keep it part of my life. However, this does not mean I can’t or don’t serve other types of businesses. I have many different types of clients from all industries across the country.
I work hard to provide my clients with the kind of service I would want from a bookkeeper. Promptness, thoroughness, integrity, and efficiency are traits that help me do so. I pride myself on providing clean monthly reports in a timely manner, quick response to questions, and a friendly, positive attitude.
Orange Blossom Bookkeeping was named in January 2022. I was wracking my brain for a name that brought me joy and happiness. My backdoor was open and the scent of the orange blossoms wafter wafted through my home. This was joy and happiness. My business was named in that moment.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three qualities that have made the biggest impact on my journey are tenacity, dedication, and confidence. Starting a new business is tough in so many ways, and each challenge demands a unique set of skills and a resilient mindset.
Tenacity has been crucial in getting through the numerous obstacles that inevitably pop up. Whether it’s dealing with unexpected setbacks or pushing through slow growth periods, staying committed to my goals has been essential. Tenacity has helped me stay focused and persistent, even when things seemed impossible.
Dedication has played a huge role in juggling the various aspects of running a business. From learning new skills to managing day-to-day operations, dedication has driven me to continuously improve and adapt. It’s about being committed to both the work I love and the necessary tasks that keep the business running smoothly. This dedication ensures that every part of the business gets the attention it needs.
Confidence has been just as important in promoting the business and myself. In a competitive market, believing in my abilities and the value of what I offer has been key to gaining clients’ trust. Confidence empowers me to take risks, make bold decisions, and present my business with conviction. It’s this self-assuredness that often makes the difference in turning opportunities into successes.
The journey of starting and growing a business often means long days and exhausting work. But the combination of tenacity, dedication, and confidence has made it possible to persevere. These qualities have given me the strength to overcome challenges and the motivation to keep pushing forward. In the end, hard work and perseverance really do pay off, making my entrepreneurial dreams a reality.

How would you describe your ideal client?
My ideal client is someone who is just as passionate about their bookkeeping as I am. It’s someone who doesn’t just glance at their monthly reports but really dives into them, using the information to make smart financial decisions that help grow their business.
This ideal client sees the value in keeping their finances in order and understands how crucial it is to have accurate and up-to-date information. They make it a priority to review their reports regularly, and they take proactive steps to apply what they learn from them to their business strategies. They know that good bookkeeping isn’t just about keeping records but about using those records to make informed decisions that drive success.
Another key quality of my ideal client is their responsiveness and organization. When I request information—whether it’s bank or credit card statements, details about specific transactions, or updates on assets and liabilities—they provide it promptly. They understand that timely and accurate information is essential for maintaining accurate records and for me to do my job effectively.
In addition, my ideal client values clear communication and collaboration. They are open to discussing their financial situation and any questions or concerns they might have. They see me not just as a service provider but as a partner in their business growth, someone they can rely on for guidance and support.
Overall, my ideal client is someone who is committed to maintaining excellent financial health for their business. They are proactive, organized, and communicative, and they see the true value of diligent bookkeeping in achieving their long-term goals. Working with clients like this makes the process enjoyable and rewarding, as we can really see the positive impact of our efforts together.
