We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nikki Bryan. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nikki Bryan below.
Hi Nikki Bryan, appreciate you sitting with us today. Maybe we can start with a topic that we care deeply about because it’s something we’ve found really sets folks apart and can make all the difference in whether someone reaches their goals. Self discipline seems to have an outsized impact on how someone’s life plays out and so we’d love to hear about how you developed yours?
My self-discipline comes from my commitment and dedication to my highest self and my purpose. I know that I have a purpose to help others in a unique way. Therefore if I’m not disciplined to accomplish my goals or resilient when faced with challenges and obstacles, what will happen to the people that are waiting for me on my path?
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a published author, Industrial-Organizational Psychologist, and Mindset Coach. My life’s work is in assisting executives, professionals, and entrepreneurs in shifting their mindsets to manifest the life that they deserve and desire. A branch off of that tree, as an I/O Psychologist, includes helping companies and organizations make their people a priority by creating a healthy quality of work life and work-life balance. When we put people over profit, as a team we increase productivity and profitability. I am passionate about building relationships at all organizational levels and bridging the gap between leaders and their teams by utilizing intuitive coaching and evidence-based consulting.
What is most exciting about what I do is that I get to not only assist people in transforming their mindset and their lives, but I get to show them by being a living example. When I authored Create Your Own Magic, I did not expect it to be picked up by Barnes and Noble prior to its release date; but that happened. Now, it currently holds shelf space in several stores in South Florida, and Georgia. Create Your Own Magic was written from the experience of me manifesting the growth in my business D’Delicious Delicacies. D’Delicious Delicacies is the online bakery that I have owned and operated for 8 years. I have executed innovative strategies and in-depth data analysis that resulted in 6% quarterly growth and I’ve designed successful strategic social media marketing campaigns on Facebook, Instagram, and Google Ads that grew sales revenue by 20%. Through my consulting and coaching business, I have transformed client strategies to successfully achieve individualized professional plans and personal goals. As well as, successfully motivated and inspired business professionals to expand their definition of success with weekly mentoring calls and resulting in increasing their clientele by 200% for the year.
Long story short, one thing I’m going to do is – make it happen!
In 2020 I founded a wellness community and brand, Affirm. Create. Manifest. Our mission is to motivate and inspire the transformation of the mind by utilizing intuitive coaching, inclusivity, personal growth, and development. Our vision is to create a safe space digitally and physically for individuals on their life’s journey to connect with others like them. While providing knowledge and understanding of the world through our streaming services and wellness programs. This year I am working with a team diligently to grow Affirm. Create. Manifest. We will be hosting our first event in Fall 2023 and launching our wellness programs in Spring 2024.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three Areas of knowledge that impacted my journey the most are finances, psychology, and history. I know the combination seems a bit odd but I believe they should be the core for everyone. With finances, I made some mistakes along the way but once I discovered what I wanted to acquire (generational wealth) it made setting my goal easier. When we assess our finances it lets us know where we are, where we have the potential to go, and what or how much we can risk (in a good way) to get there. Psychology helps us to understand ourselves and others, it also teaches us how to communicate and interact with others. History, well it tells us what happened including what was successful and what wasn’t. History can be viewed as a blueprint for the future. In business, we learn to never reinvent the wheel just make sure your turn is worth it.
Do you think it’s better to go all in on our strengths or to try to be more well-rounded by investing effort on improving areas you aren’t as strong in?
So, here’s the thing. I am going to bet on myself every single time. However, the answer to this question is subjective based on the type of person that you are and the season that you are in your life. There are various types of people, so I’m not going to deep dive into it that way. But let’s talk about the season that you are in your life…
If you are in a season of loss or grief, then I would suggest focusing on going all in on your strengths. Why? In a season of loss, you are already mentally, emotionally, or physically drained; sometimes all three. You are typically not in a state of mind to learn anything new, especially if trauma is present. When you are processing trauma and/or grieving your mind usually doesn’t retain information. Our memory is usually at its weakest. Therefore, it’s the perfect time to pull from your reserves; your strengths. Focusing on your strengths will help you to regain hope, it gives you something to look forward to and there is a higher chance of success. After all, these are your strengths – you are confident in what you’re doing. In this season bet on yourself by going all in on your strengths.
Now on the flip side if you are in a season of abundance I would say to focus on areas that you can improve. I know you’re probably thinking, how does that even make any sense? This is backward. But hear me, you’re already on a high and have the energy to learn new things. You have a higher chance of retaining new information and strategies. Even in a season of abundance, there is still room for growth. In this season bet on yourself by improving other areas that aren’t at their peak.
