We were lucky to catch up with Nikki Hunt recently and have shared our conversation below.
Nikki , so great to have you with us today. There are so many topics we want to ask you about, but perhaps the one we can start with is burnout. How have you overcome or avoided burnout?
I believe in order to overcome or avoid burnout you have to remember your “why” why are you doing this, why did you get into this. Whatever your “this” is. For me, it’s ensuring children receive high quality childcare. It’s bigger than me and of course having a strong relationship with God because I know that’s where my help comes from.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I own a childcare center in Houston in the third ward area. At Firm Foundation Early Learning Center our passion is to provide children and their families with a FIRM foundation for a successful long-term academic experience by creating a safe, nurturing environment for infants to school age (ages served may vary based on location). These are just a few of the skills and qualities that children will experience at Firm Foundation Early Learning Center, LLC. We focus on supporting children and families during all transitions throughout childhood. All activities are designed to adequately nurture the emotional and intellectual growth of our children. Through stimulating situations and hands-on learning opportunities, young children are free to develop into bright young minds.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three qualities that were most impactful are leadership, communication and problem solving. My advice would be to pray about every decision, remember that it is okay revisit your plans/ goals. Most importantly keep the faith and never give up.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
My mom is my rock she has been very instrumental in all things Firm Foundation ELC is doesn’t matter the time of day I can call and discuss any situation with her. I would say the most impactful thing she has done for me is taught me to pray she tells me all the time “NikNak talk to the Man”.
