We recently connected with Nikki Venus and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Nikki , so great to have you on the platform. There’s so much we want to ask you, but let’s start with the topic of self-care. Do you do anything for self-care and if so, do you think it’s had a meaningful impact on your effectiveness?
Well, let me tell you, it’s all about finding that sweet spot between taking care of business and self-care.
First things first, I’m a gym rat. Seriously, you’ll catch me hitting the gym at least three times a week. It’s not just about staying in shape; it’s my way of blowing off steam (that’s if I have any to blow) and keeping those creative juices flowing. Plus, who doesn’t love that post-workout energy rush?
But hitting the gym is just one form of my self-care routine. Twice a week, I designate CEO days. That’s when I dial down the intensity and treat myself to some much-needed pampering or a brunch date with a friend. Either a pedicure, maybe a facial, or even a trip to the spa for a massage. It’s my time to unwind, clear my head, and just be present in the moment.
Believe it or not, these self-care rituals actually make me better at what I do. When I step back from the daily business routine and focus on recharging my batteries, I come back to my business with a renewed sense of clarity and purpose. As a business coach, that’s invaluable. My mind is sharper, my energy is higher, and I’m ready to tackle whatever challenges come my way.
You gotta make sure you take care of yourself, both personally and professionally. And trust me, it’s made all the difference in the world.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Hey, so I’m Nikki Venus, and I’m all about helping style experts reach their full potential. At Style Coach Academy®, I’m the go-to Business Coach, showing these style experts how to kickstart, expand, and level up their styling businesses. Our learning platform, Style Coach Academy® (or SCA® for short), is the go-to hub of knowledge, where style experts can dive deep into everything from marketing tactics to pricing strategies, all while being part of a supportive virtual community called the Style Expert Circle™.
And one of the biggest highlights of my year—is the Style Expert Weekend™ retreat. It’s where style experts come together for a weekend of coaching, content, and connection. It’s like a mini-vacation packed with invaluable insights and connections.
I’ve had the pleasure of working with tons of style experts, helping them go from startup mode to hitting major milestones. Some of my clients have even made it big—on reality TV appearances, features in top magazines, collaborations with celebs, and blowing up on social media. It’s amazing to see their growth and know I played a part in it.
I’ve got something super exciting in store this year: my very own podcast, Dope Style Talk™. It’s all about merging business with style expertise to help fellow style experts build thriving businesses. Get ready for some DOPE TALKS that’s both inspiring and practical—because sometimes, all it takes is one dope conversation to spark big ideas!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
You know, reflecting on my journey, there are three things that really stand out to me. First off, I’d tell anyone starting out in the style game to really hone in on who they want to serve. Seriously, pick just one person and focus on them like your business depends on it—because it does. It sounds cliché, but that little nugget of advice totally changed the game for me.
Next up, staying true to yourself is key. It’s so tempting to peek at what every other style expert is doing and feel like you need to do it all. But trust me, you don’t. Stick to what you’re good at and what you love, and forget the rest. Just because someone else is killing it with a certain service or marketing strategy doesn’t mean it’s right for you.
And finally, don’t underestimate the power of support. When I was running my online boutique back in the day, I tried to do everything myself—and let me tell you, it was a disaster. Being a styling guru doesn’t automatically make you a backend guru. I learned the hard way that it’s okay to ask for help in areas where you’re not so strong.
So, for anyone starting out on their journey, my advice is simple: know your audience inside and out, stay authentic to yourself, and don’t be afraid to lean on others for support. Trust me, it’ll make all the difference in the world.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Absolutely! I’m all about teaming up with fellow entrepreneurs. Here’s the scoop: on my podcast, we’re cooking up a monthly segment called “The Style Cypher.” It’s like a round table discussion where we invite style experts to dive deep into a specific topic. So if you’re a style expert with some perspective to share, we’d love to have you join one of our Style Cyphers.
We’re also on the lookout for speakers to drop some gems in our Style Expert Circle™ community. Whether it’s sharing insights, tips, or stories, we’re all about bringing in fresh voices to inspire and educate our community.
And last but not least, if you’re a dynamic speaker itching to make an impact, we’re always scouting for talent to share their expertise at our annual retreat, Style Expert Weekend™. It’s the ultimate opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals and make a splash in the style world.
So, if you’re reading this and thinking, “Hey, I’d love to collaborate!”—well, you’re in luck! Just shoot me a message, and let’s make some magic happen.
