Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Niko Tucci. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Niko, thanks for taking the time to share your lessons with our community today. So, let’s jump right in – one of the most essential skills for unlocking our potential is self-discipline. Where does your self-discipline come from?
My discipline comes from how my parents raised me, from training and practicing martial arts, and subsequently from my profession as an actor. Combat sports give me a lot more than just self-discipline. I learned self-control to control my emotions, to have discipline, to know how to work in a team, I improved my concentration in my profession, It is also very important in life not to have a high ego, it does not give anything positive and good in life. I learned respect and have respect for both my teammates and all my fellow actors that I have worked with and know. Self-discipline is a quality that every person must develop if they wish to move forward.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am a Bulgarian action actor. I was born in Sofia, Bulgaria. I’ve been in the film industry for about fourteen, fifteen years. Ever since I was a child, I dreamed and wanted to work in cinema and more specifically to become an actor. In my teenage years I watched four, five movies every day, different genres, comedy, drama, action, horror. I observed in detail how each actor/actress behaved. I studied their body gestures, their expressions, facial expressions, eyes, every single movement. With every movie I watched, I wanted and dreamed about this profession more and more. When I turned 18, I was taken into the army, I served in a special forces unit called “Blue Helmets”. I was there for 18 months. The army taught me many things and developed qualities in me that will be useful in my life. Then when I got out I continued to follow what I wanted. I enrolled in acting and at the same time I continue to do combat sports. Subsequently, the two things combined gave me the opportunity to become an action actor, definitely not easy. The film industry worldwide is a huge machine in which you have to be able to synchronize, but step by step things are working out. I’m not saying it’s easy, on the contrary, I constantly encounter obstacles, but when a person is correct, honest, positive, persistent and follows what he wants to achieve, it will certainly lead to good results.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I have always liked acting and theater. I am a film acting graduate. I have been practicing Taekwon-Do since my youth (approximately 22 years), I have a black belt – 2dan. Martial arts gave me a lot in filmmaking which allows me to perform some risky scenes in acting and action films.
Persistence is a good quality that will enable you to pursue your dreams no matter what difficulties you will face on your way to your successes.

We’ve all got limited resources, time, energy, focus etc – so if you had to choose between going all in on your strengths or working on areas where you aren’t as strong, what would you choose?
I think it is better for each person to take advantage of his strengths and develop his qualities in what he wants to do or achieve in his life. We all have qualities in different areas but it is important to know what you want to do, what you want from yourself and what you want to achieve in your life. Strong qualities make it possible to build what you want to easily overcome life’s difficulties and obstacles in life.
Develop your weaknesses to become stronger and work on your strengths to achieve what you feel you are good at. Never give up on chasing who you want to be.
