Meet Nikolas Bentel

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nikolas Bentel. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nikolas below.

Nikolas, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?

My optimism comes from a belief in the potential of creativity to transform even the most ordinary moments into something extraordinary. It’s rooted in my upbringing, where curiosity was encouraged, and in the countless hours I’ve spent making things—whether designing, writing, or building something new. I’ve found that optimism often emerges from embracing the unknown and believing in the power of a good idea to connect with people. It’s the thrill of possibility, the faith in the process, and the joy of sharing something meaningful with the world. That’s what keeps me moving forward.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I’m Nik Bentel, a designer, artist, and storyteller driven by the power of creativity to connect people and ideas in unexpected ways. My work focuses on creating projects that feel sincere and innovative—whether it’s through design, fashion, or other creative mediums. I run Nik Bentel Studio, where we take on unique projects with a goal of telling stories thru objects. My story is rooted in a fascination with how objects, spaces, and narratives can spark imagination.

For me, it’s all about telling stories in ways that challenge people to see the world differently while maintaining a sense of fun and curiosity.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back, the three qualities that have been most impactful on my journey are creativity, resilience, and a willingness to experiment. Creativity has always been my driving force—it’s what pushes me to think outside the box and approach challenges in new ways. Resilience has been just as crucial; there are always setbacks, but the ability to bounce back and keep refining my vision is what keeps me moving forward. Finally, a willingness to experiment—whether with a new project, an unfamiliar medium, or a risk that seems too big—has allowed me to grow and learn in unexpected ways.

For those early in their journey, my advice would be: Don’t be afraid to explore and make mistakes. Creativity thrives in spaces where you’re allowed to fail and learn. Focus on building resilience by embracing challenges as opportunities to learn, and allow yourself the freedom to try new things without the fear of failure. The more you experiment, the more you’ll discover what truly excites you.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

When I feel overwhelmed, I try to take a step back and ground myself. I remind myself that it’s okay not to have everything figured out in the moment, and that the feeling of being overwhelmed is often a sign that I’m pushing myself toward growth. One strategy that helps me is breaking things down into smaller, more manageable steps—sometimes it’s about simplifying the task at hand and focusing on one thing at a time.

For anyone feeling overwhelmed, my advice is to find a routine that helps you reset. It’s also okay to ask for help or get feedback from others—it can provide perspective and help alleviate the pressure you might be feeling.
