We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nina Arce a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Nina, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I would say my parents. Growing up, both my parents were really hard workers. My Mother owns her own business and I grew up watching her work hard and be a Boss. My Father was the same way. I watched them overcome a lot of obstacles and they always taught me and my sister to never give up.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I have been a professional, celebrity Makeup Artist for about 17 years, I started my career in Miami and later moved to LA to expand my clientele. I’ve worked on TV Shows, Fashion Shows including Miami Fashion Week and NY Fashion Week, I’ve worked on major fashion campaigns including Guess, I have worked with many celebrities and influencers and traveled all over the world doing what I love. While living in LA I started doing more work with social media, creating content and producing brand deals. I am now signed to Up Lift Management for all my Influencer campaigns.
The beginning of 2023 I started working for my friend Sam Tejada’s company called Liquivida part time. Liquivida is a wellness center that focuses on preventative care offering IV therapy, medical aesthetics, and innovative weight loss solutions. In November I got promoted to the Social Media Community Manager for the company and now work full time with them. I still do makeup on the side though 🙂
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1.) Networking!! Networking is so big for me. I literally built my career on networking. But it’s not just meeting people… it’s watering your relationships too. You never know how someone can help you or how you can help someone. I wouldn’t be in some of the positions I am today without networking and keeping good relationships.
2.) Be an overachiever. In all that you do. Give everything 110%. People will notice and people will keep hiring you or keep referring you.
3.) Be a good sport and learn to bend a little. People want to work with others that have a good attitude and sometimes that means a teachable attitude. Remember: you can always learn something from someone
Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
I would say being a single, working Mother. I have an incredible 5 year old daughter that has my whole heart. From the moment I had her I always knew I wanted to be a super present Mother. I want to take her to school, pick her up, take her to her activities, have quality family time… sometimes it’s challenging to work a full time job and also be the only adult in the house with all the responsibilities and being 100% present for your child. It’s is definitely a daily juggle but somehow I’ve been getting it done.
