Meet Nina Chau

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nina Chau a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Nina, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
First, thank you for giving me this platform as an opportunity to share my story. I get my resilience from the growth and lessons I have endured. I did not have a smooth journey to get to where I am today, it began with taking risks and being at my lowest point in my life to be grounded. I chose a path that most would not agree to, and I took a risk to leave home at the age of 16 because I did not see eye to eye with my parents. I did not have a roof over my head or a car at the time, but worked hard until I was able to have the necessities I needed. During this time in my life, I did not have the proper tools or knowledge to exceed and understand what my goals truly were, I soon later became a mom at the age of 20 all while trying to pursue my education and seeking what I really wanted to do in life. I have failed many times, but what it taught me is growth and it got me to where I’m at today, to have resilience.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am the owner of Precious Gems Marketing, what we do is everything. We provide services that will help raise brand awareness, from web design and SEO management to hosting networking events for your business, we do it all! We are a reputable business and are here to help businesses from small to corporate, get the exposure they need.

We are launching a podcast; we are also adding new AI services for the summer of 2024 to provide for our clients.
We are also raising awareness for Cholangiocarcinoma in April (marks two years since I’ve lost my mom to it), more details to come soon. We will also host a networking event in the summer as well.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
During my journey, the qualities I found impactful was to have perseverance, when times were tough or if I found it to be challenging, I never gave up, I wanted to always seek a solution no matter what circumstances I may be in. A sense of creativity and risk taking helps me with my career, because my role is to layout different options that can help increase my clients’ brand awareness. And last but not least, knowing value. I know my clients understand that I value what they do and provide for their clients, if I don’t set value and boundaries in what I do, my clients would not be able to have a trusting relationship with me. They trust that I will exceed and complete tasks that are at hand because I too value in what I provide for them.

The advice I’d like to give would be to have patience but perseverance, simultaneously. Patience will give you a sense of understanding and perseverance will give you a solution. When you find yourself in a challenging situation, question it if you were in their shoes what you would do, provide solutions in various ways, because you won’t know until you try, and do not lower your value because you think that would help you get more clients, hold true to your value and push through.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me, was simply show that they tried their best. After leaving home, once I was established, we rekindled our relationship. One thing I do regret is that I wish I had more time with my mom, she was diagnosed with Cholangiocarcinoma in 2020, and passed away in 2022. But my parents had their own way of showing that they loved my sister and I, it might not be an “I love you” that day, but they would drive to campus almost every day to drop food off or do laundry for my sister while she was in college, for me, they knew I worked a lot and would try to help by always cooking for my family or simply thinking of me by giving me a call to ask how I was doing. As a mom of two now, I realize how important actions are and that they do speak louder than words because that’s what I remember when I think of my parents.
