We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nina Jenkins a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Nina, so happy to have you on the platform and I think our readers are in for a treat because you’ve got such an interesting story and so much insight and wisdom. So, let’s start with a topic that is relevant to everyone, regardless of industry etc. What do you do for self-care and how has it impacted you?
My self-care regimen involves taking long walks in a park or in a neighborhood that has a lot of trees, plants, and flowers. I take a bath at least once a week with as many fragrant candles that I can fit on the counter around the sink. Lastly, I play a number of puzzle games to keep my brain healthy; sudoku, magic sort water puzzle, wooduko, jigsaw puzzle, etc. Playing these types of puzzles not only helps me to relax, but they also helps to sharpen my skills. When I look at a space before organizing it, I visualize how each item can fit into that space.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I manage an organizing business that focuses on helping clients transition from one living space to another comfortably and efficiently. I work with the client to figure out a system that is specific to their routine so they will be able to keep their homes and/or work area neat.
Currently, I am working on improving my presence on social media platforms. This has been very challenging for me because each application is different and learning what is appealing to my audience can feel like long periods of trial and error with little results. Once I hon into the type of content that my audience is interested in I put one hundred percent of my effort into creating, editing, and filming new content.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back I would say that industriousness, perseverance, and self-belief are three traits/skills that an entrepreneur must possess.
I would advise anyone who is at the beginning of their journey to take every free master class that they have time for. These classes can be virtual or in-person and they are extremely helpful in finding others to help you along your journey. Look for a person that has failed in their field so that they can help you to avoid rookie mistakes. Look for someone who is very successful so that you can ask them what they did right. Look for someone who can give you honest feedback; I’m talking about the type of feedback that might make you cry, but will help you to stay on track after making the necessary adjustments. Lastly, look for someone who can teach you the art of networking.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
It is my dream to partner with The Container Store and HomeGoods so that I can film demonstrations using their products! When I need inspiration, I take a trip to HomeGoods and The Container Store to see what new container is out on their shelves.
