We recently connected with Nina Römer and have shared our conversation below.
Nina, we are so happy that our community is going to have a chance to learn more about you, your story and hopefully even take in some of the lessons you’ve learned along the way. Let’s start with self-care – what do you do for self-care and has it had any impact on your effectiveness?
Self-care for me is a deeply personal journey, and I’ve found a blend of practices that resonate with my mind, body, and soul. Yoga and meditation are cornerstones of my routine—they help me ground myself, stay centered, and find moments of clarity amidst the hustle of daily life. I’ve also discovered that regular breaks during the day are essential to maintaining my flow. Stepping away, even briefly, allows me to reset and return with fresh focus and creativity.
Hiking in beautiful nature is another lifeline for me. There’s something magical about being immersed in serene landscapes, surrounded by towering trees, cascading waterfalls, or endless mountain vistas. It nurtures my soul in a way that nothing else can.
That said, the only real way for me to fully recharge is to embark on road trips through amazing countries. There’s a unique freedom in exploring new places, uncovering hidden gems, and soaking in the diversity of landscapes and cultures. My recent highlight was a three-week road trip through Washington State, where I immersed myself in the breathtaking beauty of its three national parks—Olympic, Mount Rainier, and North Cascades. The towering peaks, lush rainforests, and pristine alpine lakes left me in awe. I came back feeling fully replenished and absolutely bursting with energy, ready to take on anything that came my way.
These experiences remind me how essential it is to prioritize self-care, not just for the joy it brings but for the vitality and effectiveness it enables in every other part of my life.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m a German travel blogger who’s been living in the vibrant and dynamic city of New York since 2022, and I feel so lucky to have turned my passion for travel into a career. Exploring the world, sharing my experiences, and inspiring others to chase their own adventures is not just my job—it’s my joy.
What excites me the most about what I do is the opportunity to connect with people from all over the world. Through my blog and social media, I get to share not only the beauty of far-off destinations but also the little details and stories that make each journey unique. There’s something incredibly special about creating content that resonates with others and perhaps even sparks their next adventure.
Building my own brand has been a fantastic journey in itself. It’s such a creative and rewarding challenge to develop something from scratch that feels so authentically me. My background in marketing has been a huge asset—it’s given me the tools and confidence to grow my platform, reach a wider audience, and stay true to my vision. Whether it’s crafting the perfect blog post, strategizing my next campaign, or engaging with my community, every day brings something new and exciting.
Looking ahead, I’m thrilled about what’s to come. I’m working on some new travel guides, planning collaborations. It’s all about continuing to share my love for travel and creating experiences that inspire others to see the world through fresh eyes.
Whether you’re a fellow wanderlust enthusiast, someone looking for travel tips, or just curious about the journey of building a dream career, I’d love to connect. Here’s to more adventures ahead—both near and far!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, I think the three qualities that have been most impactful on my journey are strategic thinking, believing in my own visions, and creativity. Each of these has played a crucial role in shaping not only what I’ve achieved but how I approach challenges and opportunities along the way.
Strategic thinking has helped me see the bigger picture while staying focused on the steps needed to get there. It’s been essential in everything from setting long-term goals to navigating unexpected twists and turns. For anyone early in their journey, I’d suggest taking time to regularly reflect on your goals and break them into actionable, manageable steps. It’s all about working smarter, not just harder.
Believing in my own vision has been both my biggest asset and one of my toughest challenges. There are so many moments where self-doubt creeps in, especially before you’ve reached any tangible success. What helped me was visualizing the worst-case scenario. I asked myself, “What’s the absolute worst that could happen if I failed?” For me, it was having to return to a “normal” job. If that’s your worst-case scenario too, then why not go for it? Taking that leap becomes much less daunting when you realize failure doesn’t mean the end—it’s just a redirection.
Lastly, creativity has been my lifeline. Whether it’s finding new ways to tell a story, problem-solving on the fly, or building something that stands out, creativity has kept things exciting and helped me connect with others in meaningful ways. To nurture creativity, I recommend giving yourself the freedom to experiment and fail. Sometimes the most surprising ideas emerge when you’re not trying to be perfect.
For anyone starting out, my advice is simple: embrace the process. Cultivate your unique strengths, be kind to yourself when things get tough, and trust in your ability to figure things out. It’s not always an easy journey, but it’s one worth taking.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
One book that has deeply influenced my journey is *The Big Five for Life* by John Strelecky. Its message about aligning life with your passions and purpose beautifully ties into the practices and philosophies I’ve shared earlier. The concept of identifying your “Big Five”—the five things that matter most to you in life—and designing your days around them resonates deeply with how I approach self-care, my career, and personal growth.
For example, when I talked about turning my passion for travel into a career, that was me living out one of my “Big Five for Life.” The book validated my decision to focus on what truly fulfills me and inspired me to stay committed to my vision, even during the challenging times. It reminded me that aligning my work with my core values—exploration, creativity, and connection—is the key to building a life that feels meaningful.
The concept of “Museum Day” moments, where we strive to create experiences we’d proudly look back on as part of the “museum” of our lives, connects directly to my love for road trips and hiking in nature. Each of these adventures feels like adding a masterpiece to my personal gallery, and this philosophy fuels my desire to explore and immerse myself in the world.
Even the idea of visualizing the worst-case scenario, which I use to overcome self-doubt, ties into the book’s wisdom. It encourages us to live with intention, recognizing that even failure is just part of the journey and not a permanent destination. This mindset helps me embrace risks, trust my creativity, and continue building my brand with passion and purpose.
Ultimately, *The Big Five for Life* has given me a framework for understanding and amplifying what truly matters to me, helping me align my self-care, professional goals, and adventures with a life of joy and fulfillment.
