Meet Nina Teapot Owens

We recently connected with Nina Teapot Owens and have shared our conversation below.

Nina Teapot , thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?
When I find myself as the only person in the room who looks like me, I acknowledge the uniqueness of my perspective and lean into the privilege of being different. I understand that my presence can challenge norms and broaden perspectives. In these moments, I embrace the opportunity to both share my insights and learn from others, leveraging diversity as a strength. Additionally, I approach these situations with the mindset that I don’t need to be the smartest person in the room, but rather affirm that what I know is enough. This mindset allows me to contribute authentically and effectively, focusing on the quality of my insights rather than comparing myself to others.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
As a Jackson, Tennessee native who relocated to Nashville in pursuit of my dreams as a singer-songwriter my career began as a 911 dispatcher to support myself and my six-year-old son. I eventually took the leap of faith to follow my passion of music by enrolling at SAE Institute Nashville, there I was able to deepened my understanding of the entertainment business.

Straight out of college, I entered the industry and quickly found myself immersed in roles ranging from promotions to day-to-day artist management. These experiences were invaluable, providing me with firsthand insight into the needs of artists and creatives. It was from this foundation that I launched my company—a creative consulting & holistic wellness company tailored specifically for creatives and music business professionals.

Through my company, I strive to empower artists and industry professionals alike, promoting balance and wellness in an often-demanding field. I’ve had the privilege of mentoring young songwriters and creatives, nurturing their talent and helping them navigate the industry. Along the way, I’ve been fortunate to collaborate with some of the music industry’s most iconic performers, further fueling my passion for supporting and championing artistic endeavors.

Looking ahead, I’m excited to continue making a positive impact in the entertainment world, fostering a community where creativity thrives and individuals are empowered to leave an indelible mark through their art. Whether it’s through new events, product launches, or expansion initiatives, I remain committed to my mission of empowering creatives to reach their fullest potential and make meaningful contributions to the world.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
My journey has taught me the importance of resilience, adaptability, and networking in navigating the entertainment industry.

-Why resilience? My journey has had its fair share of obstacles, but maintaining resilience has allowed me to keep moving forward, even when things seemed daunting. My advice for those early in their journey is to cultivate resilience by embracing failure as a learning opportunity, staying focused on long-term goals, and seeking support from mentors or peers during tough times.

– Why adaptability? The entertainment industry is ever-changing, I had to learn to be flexible and open to new opportunities. I encourage newcomers to stay curious, continuously seek knowledge and skills relevant to their field, and be willing to step out of their comfort zone to seize new opportunities as they arise.

Why networking? Building and nurturing relationships within the industry has been instrumental in opening doors and creating opportunities for advancement for me. My advice for those starting out is to prioritize networking by attending industry events, joining professional organizations, and actively seeking out mentorship opportunities.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I’m passionate about collaborating with creatives who are eager to delve deeper into their authentic selves and create art that resonates on a profound level. Whether you’re a musician, songwriter, visual artist, or any other type of creative, I’m here to support you on your journey of self-expression and artistic growth.

Additionally, I offer workshops designed to empower individuals within music companies and similar entities, promoting balance and wellness in the workplace. If you’re interested in exploring how these workshops can benefit your team and enhance your organization’s culture, I’d love to connect with you.
