We recently connected with Nirupama Desai and have shared our conversation below.
Nirupama, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I am a Certified Homeopath, and a Health and Wellness Coach practicing for the last 25 years. Health care and patient care run in my family. It’s my third generation in Alternative practice, my grandfather being an Ayurvedacharya and my uncles in the medicine fraternity. Using natural ways of a healthy lifestyle and a holistic approach towards a disease has always been a top priority in my family. Growing up in this atmosphere of different healthcare modalities helped me dedicate my life to treating others with empathy and sound knowledge of medicine. I was always passionate about what I wanted to be in my life and this inspiration of becoming a doctor and helping the patients came from my grandfather and my dad, my uncles who have always been my role models.
Sincerity, punctuality, dedication, and passion for helping the sick are what I am here as a Homeopath and a Wellness Coach to help people achieve their desired goals.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Nirupama Desai is a founder and director of Gurudeva Health and Wellness LLC and www.worldofhomeopathy.com
I pursued my MD in Homeopathy from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bengaluru, and a Health and Wellness Coach certification from Maryland University of Integrative Health (MUIH). I am a certified Classical Homeopath (CCH) and an active member of the National Center for Homeopathy (NCH), the North American Society of Homeopaths (NASH), and the American Medical Writers Association (AMWA). I enjoy writing articles on health-related topics to bring awareness to the masses.
I have had a home-based family practice in North Potomac MD for 25 years. I enjoy working to rebalance the health and well-being of people of all ages.
I work to find the root cause of illness, and her individualized treatment plans, which are based on Homeopathic Principles, are aimed at treating the individual as a whole, considering body, mind, and spirit, rather than just treating the presenting complaints.
My active role is to assist people in attaining optimal health, which includes living with more motivation, purpose, and happiness as they move through life to remove obstacles to health by assisting the body’s natural healing process.
During my leisure time, I do organic gardening, grow my vegetables, and try my hands on watercolor and acrylic painting.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Passion for the subject, sincere efforts, empathy, dedication, and willingness to serve selflessly and relentlessly have helped me tremendously through my journey. It’s something that has come in inheritance.
Being passionate about what you do, knowing the purpose of your life, competency, self-cultivation, perseverance, and resilience helps you to achieve your goals in life. Being an active listener, conscientious, empathetic, compassionate, and persistent in advocating for your patients makes you a successful medical practitioner.
Be a source of influence to others and always “pay it forward”. Empower others !!
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
“The Power of Now” by Eckhart Tolle is one of the inspirational books that has played a very important role in shaping me. It is a spiritual guide that encourages the readers to break free from negative thought patterns, ego identification, and emotional suffering by focusing on the present moment. It teaches practices such as mindfulness, acceptance, and surrender to help individuals experience inner peace and enlightenment.
Tolle has shared the importance of living in the present to find peace and happiness. He shares his story of his spiritual awakening and his experiences of intense emotional turmoil and inner suffering which led him to a very profound realization: identifying who we truly are. He encourages the readers to shift their focus from external mundane sources of validation and happiness to find the profound truth that resides within us.
Some key nuggets of wisdom include letting go of past regrets and future worries, embracing the present moment fully, practicing gratitude, and cultivating mindfulness in everyday life. The wisdom of being mindful has helped me tremendously while talking with the patients and my coaching clients.
