Meet Nisha Glenn

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nisha Glenn a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Nisha , really appreciate you joining us to talk about a really relevant, albeit unfortunate topic – layoffs and getting fired. Can you talk to us about your experience and how you overcame being let go?
I have being laid off and fired. I can honestly, say that both feelings felt the same. I would have to say that I was able to overcome them because I truly believe that everything happens for a reason. I didn’t let getting fired or laid off stop me from accomplishing goals and dreams that I had set aside for myself. At this point, they both for for the better because it burns a fire within the inside that makes you go harder and understand that when you are an asset you will always find something better, therefore that is the mindset that I have adapted within my life. The show, grind, must go on.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Hello

My name is Nisha Glenn, and I come from humble beginnings. I was raised in an environment where education was not that important, as both her Mother and Father dropped out of school at the age of 16. I knew then that know matter what I was going to break the cycle and finish High School. During my senior year in school, I was was faced with a major obstacle, and became pregnant with my first child and through determination and perseverance, I was able to overcome adversity and was able to graduate highs school on time. Shout out to the Class of 1995. She proved then that no matter what you are faced with in life you can always overcome.

Fortunately, my senior year I had enough credits and was a part of a Co-op program and worked at Mercantile bank, so after high school, I continued working at the bank and then at Verizon Wireless. After years of working and raising my two children, I was able to work my way through college and earned my Bachelor in Business Administration from Fontbonne University in 2008. At this time, I was the first in the family to graduate high school and now college.

After bring layed off from Verizon Wireless, I took a Leap of Faith and opened the doors to Stitches, a women’s boutique in the heart of mid-town Atlanta. I have always had a passion in the fashion industry. A couple years later, I received my Masters Degree in Educated and founded Educated Girls Rock

Educated Girls Rock was founded to enrich and empower girls by providing them with resources and knowledge through education. The inspiration behind (EGR) came from her wanting to see women succeed through education and not placing limits on their goals and dreams.

I formed this organization with the idea “That every girl should want to see themselves with a cap and gown on”. Having to overcome several obstacles of my own I understood the challenges of graduating under pressure and beating the odds to become successful. I just continued to impress upon girls and women how important it is to be an educated girl: especially one who Rocks. I saw Educated Girls Rock as an outlet for reaching my own potential. This is why it was no surprise that I incorporated the infamous “Graduation Cap” within my Educated Girls Rock lol. To me it symbolizes an accomplishment and every girl should experience that feeling when they walk across the stage in their cap and gown and receive their diploma, degree, and or certificate.

With the success of what I had accomplished with Educated Girls Rock, I realized early on that being an “Educated Girl” was quickly becoming a movement. Girls and women began to feel empowered while wearing one of my “Educated Girls Rock” T-Shirt. That inspired me to create more. I then created the “Educated Girl” brand.

Educated Girl is a brand that strives to promote the untouchable value of education through apparel and more. Education is a woman’s most important accessory because it sets her up for a bright future. With a strong educational foundation accompanied with her own unique ambition, this brand is for every high-achieving girl, young woman, and woman. Educated Girls are powerful, driven, and now achieving their goals in style ….what’s not to love?!

I feel that I EARNED IT!, that is my tag line, It sparked a hunger and drive in me to go after all the things my heart desired.
Now I’m obsessed with encouraging other girls and women to go out there and earn their own successes in life, too!
I believe every girl should have the chance to walk down the aisle, wearing a cap and gown, experiencing her first educational achievement. I believe every young woman should have the equal opportunity to pursue her dream profession.
I believe every woman should have the right to accomplish anything she sets her mind to, and more importantly, have the confidence in knowing she can!

Women all over the world are stepping into the sexiness of success!

Watching firsthand how education shaped my life and opened up many doors that might not have opened otherwise, I want to see you also soar past all limitations to reach your own goals and dreams.
My vision for the future is to expand the “Educated Girl” brand all across the world. I will never give up, and neither should you. Together, we will rise and achieve even more!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
There are so many qualities, skills and areas of my life that has been very impactful through my journey. So hmm, picking just three is a little difficult. The qualities, I would have to say I have that has helped my on my journey, is my personality. Being true to myself and authentic. Some skills that I have that has been very impactful are my analytical skills, my communication skills and my creative. I believe that being a team player and striving to be an effective leader. I love learning and adapting. I continue to stay prayed up and educated myself on the areas I need to have wisdom and knowledge in.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
Over the past 12 months, I have been on a path to grow and improve in all of my life. The biggest area of growth has been staying consistent with the growth. I am now very intentional about the decisions that I make. I am now more obedient and discipline in area that I was not in 12 months ago. So my 3 growth and improvement areas being are Intentional Discipline Obedient.
