We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nita Parker a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Nita, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
I wouldn’t say I’ve fully overcome imposter syndrome, but I’ve definitely made great strides. My approach has been to educate myself as thoroughly as possible about the topic at hand. I make it a point to study the people around me—understanding their roles, how they connect to mine, and the part I play in driving a project’s success. For me, knowledge is power, and it’s what builds my confidence. Eventually, there comes a moment when you have to quiet the self-doubt and take the leap. And honestly, 9 times out of 10, you’ll land on your feet.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m a web developer and consultant with a passion for all things digital. I love helping my clients discover how technology can transform their businesses, sharing ideas on using tools like websites to drive growth and make a lasting impression. My goal is to build websites that not only meet business goals but also create memorable experiences for visitors.
I actually started as a freelancer and later worked with marketing agencies across the country. Along the way, I’ve designed high-performing websites, collaborated with creative teams, and implemented CMS and e-commerce platforms like WordPress and Magento.
Outside of my work with clients, I’m really into teaching and mentoring. I’ve led 8-week web development cohorts, volunteered for coding initiatives, and even run hands-on workshops to help people dive into tech and grow their businesses.
I’m also passionate about community health and well-being. I serve on the board of Self Care Health Care KC, where we focus on mental health and self-care initiatives in Kansas City. For me, it’s all about creating impact—whether it’s through tech, education, or supporting the community.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
To succeed, you need a strong work ethic and self-motivation. Without these, it’s tough to go far in any industry. It’s all about keeping your goals in focus and taking daily steps toward achieving them.
When it comes to skills, start with the basics: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP. There are plenty of free online resources to help you learn, including my own courses at yourwebconnect.com. Once you’ve mastered the basics, you can explore more advanced coding languages depending on what you want to build.
I also believe it’s crucial for new developers to go beyond just technical skills. Learning business fundamentals is just as important. To succeed, you need not only the talent to build but also the know-how to run a profitable company and effectively market yourself to your target audience.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I’d love to collaborate with businesses that complement the services I provide to my clients. For example, attorneys who can draft disclaimers, privacy policies, and terms of agreement; photographers who specialize in product and video shoots for website media; copywriters who create engaging content and website copy; and graphic designers who focus on logo and brand design. Together, we can offer clients a more comprehensive and polished experience. They can connect with me through my website at https://nitathecoder.com/contact/
