Meet Nita Piano

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nita Piano . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Nita with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I get my work ethic from my daughter, and her admiration for me serves as a powerful motivator to maintain a strong work ethic. Knowing that she looks up to me pushes me to be the best version of myself professionally. I want to be a positive role model for her and show her the value of hard work, discipline, and perseverance. By embodying these qualities in my own work, I hope to inspire her to develop a similar work ethic and instill in her the belief that she can achieve anything she sets her mind to.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My journey began as a church musician, where I discovered my passion for music. This led me to start teaching piano classes, sharing my love for music with others. However, in 2017, I took a leap and began pitching my services to government agencies, delving into the world of business. Unfortunately, in 2019, the Covid pandemic struck, and it forced me to adapt. Recognizing the struggles faced by small businesses, I shifted my focus toward helping them with business development. This transition allowed me to utilize my skills and expertise to support entrepreneurs in navigating the challenging landscape.

Today, I am proud to be the founder and CEO of a creative program and project management agency. Our agency specializes in minority contract recruitment, vendor development, and workshop facilitation. We have had the privilege of working with government agencies and billion-dollar corporations, collaborating with them to foster diversity and inclusion within their organizations.

What excites me the most about our work is the opportunity to make a tangible impact. By providing support and resources to minority-owned businesses, we aim to create a more inclusive and equitable business landscape. We are constantly striving to develop innovative strategies and solutions to address the unique challenges faced by these entrepreneurs.

As for what’s new, we are constantly expanding our reach and exploring new avenues for growth. We are currently launching several initiatives, including educational workshops and programs, to empower individuals and businesses alike. We are dedicated to fostering collaboration, promoting diversity, and driving positive change in the business world.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back at my journey, I believe determination, faith, and perseverance were the three most impactful qualities. These qualities helped me overcome challenges, stay focused on my goals, and navigate through uncertainties. Here’s some advice on how to develop or improve these qualities:

1. Determination: Cultivate a clear vision of what you want to achieve and set specific goals. Break down your goals into manageable steps and consistently work towards them. Embrace a growth mindset and view obstacles as opportunities to learn and grow. Surround yourself with supportive and motivating individuals who can help fuel your determination.

2. Faith: Develop faith in yourself and your abilities. Believe that you are capable of achieving your goals, even when faced with setbacks or self-doubt. Cultivate positive self-talk and affirmations to strengthen your belief system. Practice mindfulness and gratitude to maintain a positive outlook and trust in the process of your journey.

3. Perseverance: Understand that success rarely comes overnight and setbacks are a natural part of any journey. Embrace a resilient mindset and view challenges as valuable learning experiences. Stay committed to your goals even when faced with adversity. Seek support from mentors or peers who have experienced similar challenges and can provide guidance and encouragement.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
One of the most impactful things my parents did for me was when my mom believed in me enough to support my decision to become a church musician at the age of 12. Her unwavering faith in my abilities and her encouragement gave me the confidence to pursue my passion. This experience taught me the importance of self-belief and the power of having someone who genuinely supports and believes in you. It shaped my identity, instilled a sense of purpose in me, and contributed greatly to my personal and artistic growth. I am forever grateful for my mom’s belief in me, as it has had a profound impact on my life.
