We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Niy5h (niy-five). We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with NIY5H below.
NIY5H , thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
Resilence has led me to my purpose and my confidence . Remaining resilient has always been the core of my journey from the time of working a 9-5 job til not having one and fully believing in myself ,having faith and patience , going towards my dreams , grinding while exploring my creative mind and making sure i kept the real ones around me – I learned how to navigate challenging situations and stay composed under pressure. These experiences taught me that no matter the obstacles, I could push through with hard work and determination. But while resilience carried me through those moments, I always knew there was something more for me.
Discovering this passion gave me a renewed sense of direction, but it also came with new challenges. In the creative industry, I quickly realized that not everyone would value my work the way I did. People often tried to get me to shoot for free, assuming I would do it out of kindness or for exposure. This is where I had to lean on my resilience once again—but this time, to stand up for myself. Setting boundaries and saying “no” was hard at first, but it was necessary. It was through those moments that I started developing my confidence and self-esteem.
I began to recognize my worth as a creative professional and refused to let anyone diminish it. Every time I turned down a project that didn’t respect my time or talent, I grew stronger and more confident in my abilities even while still learning new skills with my craft . Along with confidence, my strong work ethic—something ingrained in me from my previous jobs—pushed me forward. Whether I was behind the camera shooting videos or editing late into the night, I stayed dedicated to improving my craft which im still doing.
Resilience, confidence, and work ethic are the pillars that have guided me to where I am today. They helped me not only find my purpose in this journey but also recognize my value as a creator. I’ve learned that no matter what life throws at me, as long as I keep pushing forward, there’s nothing I can’t achieve, As long as you believe in yourself you can achieve anything and be who you want in life . Never limit yourself .
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m a visonary , specializing in VHS-style visuals that blend the nostalgic feel of the past with modern storytelling. My work focuses on creating emotionally raw and authentic visuals, I love the imperfect, grainy look of VHS because it strips away the over-polished nature of digital, capturing the real, intimate moments that resonate deeply with people
.
That said, I’m also open to working with digital formats, recognizing the versatility it offers in storytelling. This flexibility allows me to adapt to different project needs while still maintaining a distinctive artistic approach.
Right now im wanting to work with different artist , creatives , communitys and companys to expand the vision and embrace something different. I’m also working on some exciting projects and are leaning to drop some short films soon , along with this while working with some underground and main stream artist ,bringing innovative visual concepts to the table. As I continue to grow, I’m focused on expanding my work and pushing the boundaries of how VHS can be used in modern storytelling. It’s all about creating something that not only looks unique but also makes people feel something real and unreal.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back three skills i think were most impactful would have to be communiction skills , Effective communication is crucial in general and video production. Whether you’re directing a team, collaborating with other artists, or interacting with clients, pitching ideas , being able to convey ideas clearly and listen actively makes sure that everyone is on the same page.
Another one would be Adaptability , things are bound to change at any given moment .. just like 5 . 5 brings brings change. Being adaptable allows you to respond to challenges and make adjustments on the fly, ensuring that the project stays on track. I feel like this quality is important when collaborating with others, as it shows we can work well in a team and handle unexpected situations gracefully.
Empathy would be another quality , i feel like this quality has an encouraging and supportive affect on the atmosphere where everyone feels valued, leading to more effective teamwork and creative synergy. No one wants to be left in the dark .
Last but not least for me would have to be being AUTHENIC. I feel like this plays a major role in anything you do. Its only 1 of you , show up as yourself unapologetically . Authenticity in communication fosters trust , Being true to yourself helps you navigate changes with confidence , Authenticity enhances empathy by encouraging you to connect with others on a genuine level.
Things can change overnight but never rush your blessings , its already written and will come on God’s timing everytime .. just be willing to do the work and meet your higher self halfway. DON’T worry about what anybody gotta say , BE AUTHENIC, just focus on you. And keep your real family and tribe close
.
If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?
I believe challenges are opportunities for growth, and right now, I’m focusing on two main areas. One is finding like-minded artists to collaborate with who share a similar creative vision. It’s essential for me to partner with individuals who are open and invested in the creative process. Another consideration is where to establish myself—whether it be NYC, Atlanta, or elsewhere. Each city has its unique opportunities, and I’m weighing my options to find the best ALIGNS for my artistic goals. I see these challenges as part of my journey, and I’m committed to finding solutions that will enhance my work and foster valuable connections in the industry.
