We were lucky to catch up with Niya Williams recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Niya, so excited to have you with us today, particularly to get your insight on a topic that comes up constantly in the community – overcoming creativity blocks. Any thoughts you can share with us?
In those moments of creative block, I see it as an opportunity to embrace a creative break. The process has no time limit, which means I’m going out into nature more, exploring & traveling to new places & trying new foods, working on my financial goals, or even spending time with friends & family. Through those moments of smelling the roses, God reminds me that art and creativity are everywhere. It might be a painting I saw, a friend might have an idea I can dive into, or a core memory I have with my family can also help spark my creativity. I take those moments and use them as fuel for my creativity, which also guides me to overcome/beat my creative blocks.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Recently, in my artistic career, my focus has been on creative wellness and using creativity as a tool to expand the mind, finding new pathways to pleasure while embracing the fun, excitement & frustration of playful experimentation. The goal is to host more creative workshops for people of all ages to explore what their creative minds show them. Each class will tap into something different, whether that’s jewelry making, learning about gardening, baking treats, or even trying a new craft entirely, like sewing. I want to provide a wide variety for anyone to find their passion, develop a new skill, or try a new hobby.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Having a full understanding and taking responsibility for oneself is one of the most important qualities to have when going into your unique journey. Making sure you create an environment where you can thrive and be successful, but also sustainable and full of purpose, fun & passion! We can’t forget about the other side of life, where things can get a bit rocky, but having a sacred space to release all tension and frustration is how we allow ourselves to feel what it’s like to be human. As long as you’re living a life that is truly from the heart and allowing God to guide you, you’ll explore freely through the infinite worlds of possibilities.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
