We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Noah Martin a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Noah, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
When I was young I was a little overweight and pudgy, but I’m also a red head so the two made for a storm of chaos socially. Growing up I was called ginger all the time and had notes put on my back, sometimes you’d get a kick but that was rare. At a certain point I realized that it was all arbitrary. I figured out if I’m as kind as I can be to every person I meet, they’ll be kind back. Not always but most of the time. The golden rule has helped me develop my confidence and security in myself. Looks and opinions truly have no weight. Your character and how you treat people does.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m from Tucson, AZ in the desert. I’ve been playing music for about 20 years now. Everytime I play Im still like a giddy little 3 year old just learning. My business is my artistic career, it’s been a tough road learning the ins and outs of the business side, but everyday you know a little more and it gets easier, still hard but less daunting. The best part about writing and playing your own music is seeing other people enjoy it live. When you’re going crazy jumping around and screaming your own words and people actually enjoy it! Everytime a crowd or person likes a song it blows my mind. Something I created in my room alone is making people have fun. We want to play to as many people as possible all over the world. The next step is planning to go around and tour a little bit, always having some crazy shows.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I would say to not give up, have fun, and keep your head up. You’re gonna “fail” or learn how not to do things. It’s hard to stop yourself from stressing out and feeling like you’re getting nowhere. If you’re not having fun chasing your dream or passion is it really worth all the turmoil. You have to keep your mind right and not let the negatives get to you.
Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
All quiet on the western front. A very dark answer but this book helped me wake up from my own problems. Life and death are described so vividly it’s almost as if you’re there. This book taught me to keep going, things will change, people will come and go, but as long as you stay true to yourself you will have a peace internally.
