Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Noam Israeli. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Noam, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I feel that my work ethic comes from my desire to excel, and to be the best version of myself that I can. Starting out as a young musician, I was inspired by my teachers and the way they played music moved me and made me feel things. As musicians, I find that we are always chasing “that feeling”, the high that music can make us and the audience feel and share. At the time, after already playing drums for a couple of years, I realized that it all starts with work ethics. I sat down every day and practiced for hours until I started developing the technique and musical skills I needed. At one point, practicing became a need for me. I would feel bad without practicing a specific day. I enjoyed it and needed it in order to feel good.
As time passed and I continued developing my skills, I started seeing the results as well. My confidence and self-esteem grew and I felt “that feeling” more and more. Nowadays, I strive to maintain a healthy work ethic, even though as an adult it is harder to find the time to sit down and practice as much as I used to.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a musician – drummer and producer originally from Israel and currently living in Los Angeles. I play music for a living and have worked as an engineer and producer in major recording studios in the US. At the moment, I play with different bands in LA and tour around the world. I first moved to the US to study at Berklee College of Music, where I got my Bachelors and Masters degree. Later, I moved to NYC for a few years where I played a lot on the Jazz scene and worked as a recording engineer and producer. When Covid came along, I moved to Europe and once things opened back up, I was playing and touring in the scene there. Right after Covid started getting much better, I moved to Los Angeles, where I currently live.
I love making music, whether it is performing it live or producing records. I am still always after “that feeling”, the magic that music can make people feel.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three qualities that are most important in music in my opinion are;
– The ability to play well on your instrument and a deep understanding of music in general.
– Professionalism – being on time, being ready, knowing the music, being on top of everything.
– Being fun to be around – Being kind, listening to others, being present, etc. A good rule of thumb – don’t be an a**hole.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
My parents always supported me, no matter what I wanted to do. When I decided to do music for a living, they stood behind my decision completely and pushed me forward. I owe them so much, and wish I would live closer to them.
