We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Noor Awada. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Noor below.
Noor, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
Personally for me, optimism is a choice. It’s similar to the analogy of the cup being either half full, or half empty. Sometimes in life, you are put in situations that are just simply not the best. However for me, I always try to find the good things in every experience i have, even If it’s something really small. This helps me stay motivated and focus on the bigger picture, as well as appreciate the small things.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Currently, I am a student finishing up my masters at BerkleeNYC, but besides that, I am an artist, singer-songwriter, and producer based in the NYC area. I go by the artist name NOOR.
I make music in the Indie-Folk pop genre, similarly to artists like Gracie Abrams, Lizzy McAlpine, and Billie Eilish.
My love for music started at the young age of 4, when I first learned to play the violin. After years of learning different instruments, developing my own voice/sound, and eventually going to Berklee College of Music in my undergrad, I have found myself in a place where I music that I love and am proud of.
I recently had a song release, “Honest” by Karrion and NOOR, which me and my friend worked on together and I’m super excited about. I am also currently working on an EP called, ‘Bruises’, which will have roughly 6 indie pop tracks.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three qualities that were most impactful in my journey would definitely include being optimistic, confident, and perseverant.
There’s been so many times where I have hit bumps in the road and being able to highlight the good out of each situation, even if its a small detail, has allowed me to appreciate what I do have and be able to have a better view on my circumstances.
Confidence is everything and really does shape how people view you. As an Artist and a performer, being confident in myself and my work is vital for being successful and encourages people to also trust and believe in you and your work as much as you do yourself. If I go on stage and perform and I give off the body language that I’m not confident and sure of myself, people will feel that and wont feel as a good as they would if I came on with high energy and confidence. This applies to most things though, people wont believe in you more than you believe in yourself! Lastly, even when you do hit those ‘bumps in the road’ that I mentioned earlier, even if things seem unlikely, you just have to keep pushing, keep going, and be consistent.
I firmly believe having the drive to be consistent, showing up everyday, and picking yourself back up every time you fall will lead you closer to what you want in life than anything.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
My mum is the most amazing person you will ever meet; She is kind, loving, understanding, funny, supportive, wise beyond her years, and truly the most beautiful person I know inside and out. She has taught me many things; To love others as you would yourself (if not more), to work hard, shoot for the stars, pay attention to detail, love God, and appreciate every moment and person you have in your life, and make the most of it all. Specifically one thing that has shaped my career, is to not wait for the world to come to you, but to go out there and do. Meaning, if I want to make something of myself or If I see my life being a certain way, it’s not going to happen if I do nothing about it. This has been a driving force in me moving across country and going to music school, pursuing music as a career, and ultimately building the life that I want.
