We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Noor Kidwai. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Noor below.
Noor, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
Probably from my parents. They are both immigrants who came here and bought small businesses and struggled for years to make it work and make a better life for their family. I saw firsthand how much time and effort they put in and I also helped and participated. I saw when you’re dedicated to something and continue even when you feel lost or unsure you can always push through eventually to a place that’s a lot for pleasant and abundant.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m a comedian. I’ve been doing stand up comedy for almost 15 years and I started doing sketch comedy online for the last 2 years. The Sketch comedy has helped me build more of an online presence and also allowed me to hone in on a theme with my comedy. My comedy is now evolved into a social commentary on our current situation and I thankfully found that by having the guts to create sketches online and learn from the ups and downs of that process. I am also going to film my first full comedy special this winter.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Curiosity – I’ve always been very curious about things and it makes me naturally examine and think about things that interest me a lot which helps drive my creativity. Curiosity is a muscle so people can lean into their curiosity to strengthen it and it’s eventually becomes very natural.
Understanding people I don’t agree with – this allows me to not always immediately take the popular opinion on a subject. I don’t get too emotional about something and it allows me to see how other people think about it and understand it better. Usually that allows me to have a different take on certain subjects which can make stand out.
Meditation, breathwork, spirituality- these practices ground me and allow me to be very present. They can also allow me to change my mental or physical state easier which can help when anxiety, depression or stress comes up. It also is part of my faith and if I didn’t have faith I don’t know if I would have ever pursued this.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I love collaborating with creative people. I make a lot of comedy related content so I’m always up for that. I also have been taking acting classes for the last year so I wouldn’t mind working with people in this area as well. I also love having great conversations so I’m up for talking about comedy, creativity, self improvement, spirituality, society and many more topics.
