We recently connected with Nuria Román and have shared our conversation below.
Nuria, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
For me, living on an island like Menorca — being in touch with nature, the stones, the wind, the sea, the moon, and the sun — has helped me understand my purpose.
It’s a place rich in history and heritage, from the old military ruins of the 15th century to the ancient Talayotic settlements dating back a thousand years before Christ. Living surrounded by such natural beauty and deep history has given me a sense of connection — to the land, to time, and to something larger than myself.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a visual artist who works with different materials, often linking each material to the concepts that shape my work. My artistic practice explores the connections between matter, memory, and the human relationship with nature.
My current focus is “Coser la Tierra” (Sewing the Earth), a global art project for peace that connects places along the 40th parallel north through large-scale artistic installations. The project seeks to symbolically “mend” the fractures that humanity has created over time — cultural, social, and environmental — by weaving together art, science, history, and ecology.
The journey begins in Menorca and expands across the world — from Madrid and Portugal to New York, Japan, Beijing, Istanbul, Greece, Italy and beyond — creating a thread of unity and reflection through shared artistic actions.
What excites me most is the collaborative and healing nature of the project. Each intervention involves local communities and uses sustainable, locally sourced materials, reinforcing the idea that art can be both a tool for peace and a bridge between cultures.
From 2026 to 2029, Coser la Tierra will develop a series of international installations along the 40th parallel, inviting people everywhere to participate in a collective gesture of connection and reconciliation with the planet.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, I believe the three qualities that have most shaped my journey are trust, connection, and commitment.
First, trust — in the creative process and in life itself. Art often requires stepping into the unknown, allowing intuition and time to reveal the meaning of each work.
Second, the ability to connect — to link ideas, people, and materials in ways that create dialogue and meaning. This openness to connection has allowed my projects to grow beyond myself and to involve others in a shared reflection.
And finally, commitment — the decision to stay loyal to my own work and to my inner truth, even when the path is uncertain.
My advice for those at the beginning of their journey would be: trust your process, stay curious, and be authentic. The most powerful work comes when you allow yourself to listen — to the materials, to the environment, and to your own voice.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
The book “Atmospheres” by Peter Zumthor helped me understand the meaning of empty space — the atmosphere, the invisible presence that exists between objects, and how essential it is to what we create around us.
Through his words, I realized that art is not only about the object itself, but about the space it generates, the silence and emotion that surround it.
After reading it, I began creating stone installations that seemed to float in space, focusing more on the energy and atmosphere they produced than on the physical form itself. This awareness continues to shape my work today, reminding me that what we create extends beyond matter — it touches the air, the light, and the people around it.
