Meet Nya Kumari

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nya Kumari a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Nya, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
Developing confidence and self-esteem is a daily process. I have been through abusive relationships, torn down mentally and emotionally. I was neglected by my mother, which caused mental and emotional issues. Having confidence and self-esteem is built from within; you have to focus on the positive, trust in God, be kind to yourself, love yourself, take care of yourself and keep moving forward affirming yourself.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Nya Kumari was born and raised in Houston, Texas. She was raised by a single father where she developed ambition and a determination to succeed. Her high school years and graduation took place at Jesse H. Jones High School in South Park, one of Houston’s hoods. She went on to attend HBCU Wiley College, majoring in Criminal Justice and went home to graduate from HBCU Texas Southern University with her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice minoring in Communication. Her vast array of jobs and work experience include the City of Houston, the State of Texas, and the Federal Government, bartending, teaching adults English as a second language, substitute teaching special needs students, driving Uber, and delivering Grubhub, – sometimes working three jobs at a time. During Covid she was inspired to open an online clothing store, named Kumari Closets, In August of 2021 she opened her food truck named Kumari Tasty Grill, and on October 1st, 2022, she released her memoir “The Mind Games He Played” about a 6-year relationship with a narcissist who was abusive; mentally, emotionally & physically. Nya was inspired to write her story to help others in abusive relationships gain knowledge and hopefully find a way out. On April 1st, 2023, Nya released her second published book, “Cussing & Coloring: Adult Affirmation Coloring Book” the coloring book is to help with stress, anxiety and mindfulness.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
-Stay focused on your goals; write them down. plan out your execution, make a budget, don’t give up. -Stay humble: I believe that all things happen through God. “Gods grace will be extended to those who are humble before him” Proverbs 3:34
-Believe in yourself. don’t allow the negativity of the world, your friends, or family distort the dream you have, BELIEVE in yourself you can do the unimageable.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I would love to collaborate with someone who organizes speaking engagements for people to rebuild; confidence, self-esteem, maintain mental health, overcome toxic/abusive relationships.
