We were lucky to catch up with Nyja & Jayson Prior recently and have shared our conversation below.
Nyja & Jayson, so great to have you with us and thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with the community. So, let’s jump into something that stops so many people from going after their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. We’d love to hear about how you dealt with that and persisted on your path.
We try to make an active effort to be positive and ignore negativity. We know how far we’ve come and the work that’s gotten us to where we are. Nothing can take that away from us and we look forward to seeing what the future holds, without worrying about those who say we can’t achieve our goals.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
We never planned to get into the event business, but after getting so many inquiries about who designed our own wedding, we decided to pursue a new venture. Initially focused on florals, Priority Event Decorations has now expanded its service offerings to include luxury balloons, custom backdrop setups, event planning, and other completely custom designs. We offer services for all event sizes and enjoy tailoring our designs to our clients’ specific events.
We have something really exciting going on with our business right now! We are launching our newest venture within the next few days. We are offering
a short-term rental contract for other Event Planners and Designers that will help to easily create contracts between themselves and their clients. This was designed with small business owners and entrepreneurs (like ourselves) in mind and the contracts are completely and easily customizable for them. This will be available through our Stan Store via Instagram.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Perseverance, patience, and a willingness to take risks: these are the most important. Fear can be a significant hindrance for people interested in starting their own business, especially when it feels like there’s a never-ending list of things that need to be done before you can even get started. Sometimes, you have to be willing to just start and figure things out as you go. On the other hand, you have to be patient as you push forward with your business. It takes time to build a client base; but as you continue to grow and do excellent work, things can pick up quickly, and sometimes exponentially.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
We are! We’re always open to working with others in the industry, including other designers, photographers, caterers, and DJs. We are also interested in creating relationships with hotels or Event Venues that are local to the areas that we serve (Southern California, Phoenix, and Las Vegas). We enjoy networking with individuals and companies who want to help everyone work to grow their business. Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok are great ways to collaborate with us!
