We were lucky to catch up with Oak Cliff EZ recently and have shared our conversation below.
Oak Cliff, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
Honestly, many of my personal heroes (people and fictional characters) inspire me to have more resilience by being an example themselves. Not only does this remind me I’m not the only one dealing with adversity, but it also gives me hope that I can show the same resilience that they have and become an example myself.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I originally started making music as a feature for my brother’s rap group. From there, I slowly started to get into making my own music. I’ve continued to make music not only as a tool of self-expression, but as a weapon others can wield to combat their inner demons. To elaborate, I believe many of the struggles we face today are mental – and often we suffer in silence feeling that no one would understand us or be empathetic to what we’re going through. Music has the power to bring about change in our energy – whether it be uplifting us, emboldened our spirits, or just letting us know we’re not alone. Music can change your mood, mood changes your thoughts, your thoughts become your actions, and actions eventually define your personality – so if I can help people through my art, I will.
One thing potential fans should know about me is how diverse my catalog is. Some songs are motivational and introspective while others are more straight forward and focus on creating a vibe. My songs also include my various interests. For example, some songs may have references to Anime and DND while others may be club bangers or twerk songs. At the end of the day, I make music that represents my perspective – and I’ve always had a wide-angled view.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1. Patience: Most things don’t come overnight. You’ll need to be patient while the seeds you’ve planted sprout.
2. Preparation/Consistency: Keep improving on your craft – even if the way to reach the next level isn’t immediately apparent. Any given day could be the day that changes your life – but you must be ready for that day.
3. Creative Thinking: Don’t be afraid to go against the grain. Sometimes abstract thinking can help you make quantum leaps forward.
Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
I usually go for a walk/run. Being outside helps me remember the bigger picture and clear my mind. I’ve learned that sometimes solutions can come to you when you take a step back and get a better perspective on the “problem”.
